So I'm waiting on an incoming Acoustic Image Clarus Head, and naturally I'm thinking about what speaker cabinet to pair with it.
Raezer's Edge seems the obvious choice, and I'll likely go with one of their combo cabinets. But I'd love to hear some opinions about what other guitarists like to use before I make a purchase decision.
Stylewise, I'll be playing some archtop, but more steel string flat top fingerstyle jazz.
Your recommendations will be most appreciated!
PS. Also, if any of you have an appropriate cab that you want to sell, please let me know

I have a Raezer's Edge 10" and a Ear Candy 2x8" and like them both.

Raezers Edge Stealth 10 ER
Raezers Edge Stealth 12 ER
Raezers Edge NY 8 ER
Raezers Edge Twin 8

It's so personal. I have a Raezer's Edge 12" which is my preference compared to my Redstone 8". But I have talked to many more people who prefer the little Redstone.

Longways,
Congrats on the excellent amp!
Do you perform, or just play at home? Does size matter?? For that style of music, some prefer a 1x15 cab (assuming you perform out).
I have nice cabs from: Nerby Custom Speaker Cabinets - PayPal and Pricing Information and
J Design Speaker Enclosures - Home -- great quality and great prices!

I have a Redstone 10 and like it a lot, but Redstone is now out of business and there are not many of their speakers around. I suppose Reazers Edge would be an obvious alternative. Some (me included) prefer to add some preamp pedal to spice up the very neutral sound of the AI head.

Raezer's Edge Stealth 10
two of them when a "louder" sound is required (with drums in the band)

Agree with Jazznote. Michael Biller at Sound Island recommended the combination for 7 string Archtop as it covers the low A string to the high E string equally well.

One of the advantages of having a head is that you can pair it up with various cabinets to achieve different results. My Earcandy 2x8 is darker than my Earcandy 1x12, and my 1x6 is brightest of all. Having these three choices available allows me to pair guitars with brighter or darker qualities with their appropriate cabinets and allows for more tonal flexibility than would be available with a combo amp.

I have 3 RE cabs: 10-er, 12-er, NY. 12er is warmer than the 10 and has more bass, but the 10 is a bit more "clear", the notes are more "out", especially the trebles. And for "modern jazz" / semi hollows actually the ny8 is pretty amazing and I prefer it to the 10, but this is all so personal.

I've been interested in the Buscarino Chameleon. Video demos with AI sound great, although it is pricey. Any current or previous owners here?

One of these:

If you get a Raezer's Edge cabinet, strongly consider an extended range (ER) version for flattop playing. You can always turn the tweeter off, although I prefer to use it even with my archtops. Makes the speaker sound more open.
I still use my RE cabs at home, but for gigging I prefer to use my Clarus heads with Acoustic Image speakers, in the form of my Corus+ and Ten2 combos. Lighter, more convenient and sound great on stage. You can get these speakers in extension cabinet form to use with your Clarus, although you lose a bit of the convenience factor.

Hi BMW2002,
I have both an AI Clarus series 4 and the Buscarino Chameleon that I use with my Arch tops exclusively. I first tried a Raezor's Edge Stealth 10 ER with the Clarus, but felt that it was missing something in tonality and sent it back. The Chameleon, on the other hand, gave me the tone I was searching for and is an amazing cabinet. For an 8" speaker it sounds much larger, it is warm, clear and in my experience without distortion. But I must add that I use the amp and cab combination in a home studio environment. However, my guess is that it would do quite well in most any situation, and paired together they are light enough to carry without effort--both come with a carry case. I should also add that since the arrival of the Chameleon I can, for the first time hear the, at times, even subtle tonal differences between my many arch tops—Gibson L5's, Triggs, Comins, and more.Last edited by plectrum99x; 06-01-2016 at 10:47 AM.

Good advice. And if you ever get the itch to get into bossa, a nylon string guitar sounds awesome through a RE-ER.

Danny W's recommendations are very good, here.
Still, for home and gigging the occasional coffee house/gallery, I sense that the Henriksen "The Bud" may end up sweeping the field. One guitar and a mic, or even two guitars into something the size of your hat... Come on!

I have a Clarus 2 Series 4, and I built a cab that is styled like a RE, but was built by me and designed using Eminence's software and components, including rear firing tweeter and crossover with L-pad. I put a speaker tripod mount in the bottom and getting it up to face level has resulted in a cab that sounds every bit as wonderful as I envisioned it would when looking at the design specs.

I use a Redstone 10" with my AI Coda, which everybody says is the same thing as a Clarus.
if you need a rig that will fill a room, the RS10 definitely does that very well. I usually used it with a top notch jazz big band that I sometimes get called as a sub for when the keyboard player can't make it, and they love the way it fills the room in the absence of a keyboard player, but the last time I got called, I brought my little JazzKat amp with a new guitar.
Big mistake. The leader complained he couldn't hear me at all. Next time I'm in that situation, I'll bring the AI and RS10.

There are many posts suggesting that the OP look into a RedStone cabinet, but isn't that company out of business? If so, that limits the options—with portability and tone in mind—to the Raezor's Edge and Buscarino Chameleon cabinets.

Hello NoReply,
I did not include Ear Candy in my last post because it is a completely customizable option, and while many may have the knowledge to pick and choose a given speaker/cabinet combo, I personally do not. And as such, I mentioned the cabinets that come with speakers already enclosed. I am sure that one could assemble a superb speaker/cabinet combo from the Ear Candy choices, but I would not know where to begin without having the ability to hear the various options in my chosen environment. For myself, an arch top player, the Clarus 2 Series 4 and Buscarino Chameleon combination gives me the tone and volume I need with very little need for EQ, and the speaker decision has already been made by Buscarino. Is it a costly approach, of course, but I no longer have to search for the perfect tone producing combination ... I have found it.Last edited by plectrum99x; 06-07-2016 at 05:18 PM.

Hey NoReply, I've got a Bailey too, but it has the hemp cone speakers, so only about 50 watt power handling capability -- not such a good match with the Clarus. What speakers do you have in your 2x8?

I own both a RE ER 10" and a Buscarino Chameleon 8" and the Buscarino is the better speaker IMHO.
