Five.
3 Hollow bodies:
2014 Heritage H575 Custom
2014 Peerless Monarch 16
2012 Ibanez AF125 Custom
1 Semi- hollow
1997 Epiphone Sheraton II (Korea-Samick)
1 Acoustic
Yamaha LS16M
I think that my small collection is complete, having filled all my musical requirements. However, I am so in love with my Heritage H575 Custom that I am dreaming about an H555 Semi-hollow sometime in the future. Oh I forgot, and a Peerless Imperial.Last edited by jazz.fred; 05-31-2016 at 11:57 AM. Reason: add'l content

I have 11 guitars:
Painter P-350 2013
Triggs "Stromberg Master 400" 2010
Benedetto Fratello 1997
Gibson ES 175D 1961
Gibson L37 1934 with original 1938 CC PU
Gretsch New Yorker 1961
Fender Strat Highway 1 2004 (ca.)
Warmoth Strat shaped partscaster 2011
Ibanez Flattop 1970s
Levin classical 1970s
Schlünsen classical 1940s
.... plus one no name Mandolin and one no name violin.
Do I NEED any of them? Likely not. But if I had to thin the herd, I'd stick to the Painter, the Triggs and the partscaster because I have really bonded with them and the Fender Strat because it's so versatile. I would also keep the mandolin and the violin for sentimental reasons because they belonged to my late father.

I have four (two electrics, a steel string acoustic, and a classical), plus a bass. I have whittled this down from a couple more. While I could live with just one electric and one acoustic, what I have seems like the right number for the situations I encounter, and more would actually be a bit of a distraction to me. Rather than think about which guitar is the perfect one for the situation, I'd rather just make what I have work in the situation.

From a tool box perspective I'm coming up with 6.
Dreadnaught acoustic
Nylon string acoustic
12 string acoustic
Solid body electric w/ humbuckers
Solid body electric w/ singel coil
Hollow body electric/acoustic (floater pickup)
I have more than that though.

Owning many guitars is a very nice luxury not afforded to most working musicians. That said, it's a fun hobby that is hard to stop once you get going!
-
How would you define "many"? That word probably means different things to different people.

I never play the flattop. (I'm not sure where it is...) I dont play the Heritage much, but can't bring myself to part with it, it is the only guitar I have worth anything.
my favorite is the Painter p175, but it feeds back so it's mostly my practice guitar and for duo gigs. The most comfortable is the P15, sounds
great, like a archtop should, *but never feeds back* (no f-holes). What a huge thing this was when I got it. The tele needs work (new neck) and doesnt play well, so it's not getting much love right now, but it gets into the rotation every now and then and I love it for a while.
I'd buy a 335-style guitar if I didn't have kids. I'd also buy an ergonomic guitar if I had loads of money.

i have 2
for most of the time i was gigging the whole time - 1
i've had as many as 3

so that's it for me
jeeesus
i'm trying to start wanting a 175 - but i can't make it happen (because my 2 are just too good)
but i consider myself to have quite a deep guitar-problem
and i'm doing pretty well compared to most on this thread!

Hi folks,
I'm an amateur guitar player who has accumulated all types of guitars, mostly from estate sales, flea markets, etc. My favorite is a 1980's Taylor 810 dreadnought which I purchased at a local musician's flea market / swap meet around 25 years ago. More recently I've taken an interest in the late 60's / early 70's Made in Japan copies. I have a Conrad semi-hollow body which is in great shape and plays great! I also like my vintage Harmony Monterey.
Quick question .. a local music store has a nice looking late 60's/early 70's Kawai hollow body (ES 175 copy) which I'm considering and would like to learn more about. Action is a little high and it's shimmed. Is this common with these guitar or just a function of how it was set up ? His asking price is $399 (negotiable). Any info and/or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS!
Rick

Found this quote from the Rev. Billy F. Gibbons:
"My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guitars for what I told her they cost."

I don't why it hit me but I think a psychologist or is it psychoanalyst, a "shrink" would say about the personalities revealed by this thread.

Let's say you have n guitars

That would depend on whether or not they're guitar players.

8 guitars, 2 electric bass. One thing I like is playing say my tele for a while, then archtop, then nylon etc. It's very enjoyable to hear/feel the differences of each instrument.
I'll probably add more in the future, another tele, another arch, a 7 string perhaps...
-
Let's see, counting only guitars, not basses, banjos or steels -- 14 -- so I've cut down!
Fender Am Standard Tele
Fender Am Special Tele
Fender Modern Player Thinline Tele
Fender Am Deluxe Strat
Fender Am Standard Strat
Eastman 905
Eastman 403
Guild Aristocrat
Loar 309
Washburn HB15
Kremona Romilda classical
Cordoba GK Nigra classical
JWC Manouche gypsy
Gitane DG500 gypsy
I need to get rid of 3 of these, the Loar,Washburn and Chinese Tele.
-
These are mine:
1991 L5CES (not sure about the year, who cares, it's an L5!!!!)
2006 Sadowsky Jim Hall
1976 Byrdland
1963 Gretsch Tennessean
1953 ES-150
1979 Strat
2015 American special Tele
2008 Gibson J-45
An old classical guitar
That makes nine. Do I use all of them? Hell yeah! Do I need them all? No, of course not. I don't play the acoustics often although they're both wonderful.
I love them all. Lately, the Tele gets the most play time.
-
Oh my I need to show my wife this thread.
My list:
2011 Gibson ES 175
-
I have two guitars.
Moffa Maryan
Electra X510
I play Moffa 99% of the time, for gigging, recording and practicing. I don't really get play the other one. So I probably don't need them all.
-
I have a rule that if it doesn't get used to make music (play gigs) out it goes! That said I have one Tele than I really need at the moment and will have to remedy that, bummer!
-
I have 9 guitars + 1 bass I do not need them all but I want to have them and I can have them.
1. MIC Fender telecaster, modern player thinline deluxe (very new, it has P90 pickups)
2. Loar LH650
3. Gibson ES175 (2007)
4. DIY kit tele
5. MIA Fender strat, floyd rose classic (mid 90s)
6. cheap flat top acoustic
7. Washburn HB35 (korean made from early 00', later this model is made in china).
8. Loar LH300
9. Squier jazz bass, vintage modified
10. (not in photo) cheap flat top acoustic in my parents house.
I could do quite well by having only the P90 tele and the ES175, those are the ones I play most these days.Last edited by orri; 06-01-2016 at 11:05 AM.
