Hello! I'm new here so sorry if the topic is somehow repeated. I am looking for a portable (a big issue for me) jazz guitar combo amplifier with reverb. My budget is only 500$ so it shouldn't be necessarily tube but it would be nice if it was . It could be an acoustic amp, too. My guitar is Yamaha AEX-1500 Martin Taylor. I use only clean sound with a little bit of reverb. My biggest concerns are good-quality tone and weight of it. Any suggestions are welcomed thank you very much!

I just picked up the discontinued Henriksen Jazzamp 110 for $575 off EBay. Just received it a couple of hours ago and am loving it!

Also, see if you can find a used Fender '65 Princeton Reverb reissue. Awesome amp for archtops.

I'm selling the classic (diamond tolex, no mid control) Polytone mbII if you are interested. It is practically THE jazz amp if you like the dark/fat jazz tone. If you're interested, feel free to pm me. Price is $250.

    Have a great day.

The Fender SCXD/X2 is a great amp, quite cheap. I also have a Fishman Loudbox Artist, a very versatile and very loud and lightweight amp that works well with all types of pickups.

I live in Russia so yeah, it's a good point since some things like Polytone or Carr are not so easy to find here.

Thank you for your suggestions! I'll try to see what I can find here. By the way, has anybody tried DV Mark Little Jazz? Seems to be neat

I also have a Yamaha AEX-1500 Martin Taylor (great guitar, by the way), and one amp I play it through is a Roland Cube 80 (the last generation, not the current one). IMO, it sounds great through that, and it's definitely within your budget. (I got mine used for $250, so...) Good luck with your search.

Oh, no, it's too heavy for me 14 kilos.

But thank you for the recommendation! Have you tried something else? Your opinion is especially interesting since you play the same guitar.

If the Roland Cube 80 is too heavy, look for a used Cube 40XL. Very nice tone and loud enough to play a restaurant, coffee house or "cocktail lounge".

As an added bonus, the output reduces from 40 watts down to 2 watts. Great for practicing. The current version of this amp (Cube 40 GX) does not have this feature.

The 40Xl sold for around $225 brand new. A terrific value in an affordable and very lightweight amp.

    Ilmir,
1st thing, welcome to the forum.
I totally agree with Jbucklin, the Henriksen in both 10 or 12" versions are GREAT amps.
I am very fortunate to have one. I am also fortunate to have a Polytone MiniBrute III 12" which is a dynamite amp too. I would highly recommend you get either one.. If you get a Polytone, make sure you have a tech who can fix it if it breaks. They are durable, lightweight and sound amazing but they tend to be older and the law of averages prove that repairs are probable.

The Henriksen is designed to amplify the sound of your guitar. Its EQ system tries to focus on the frequencies of each one of your strings. You can adjust the sound if you want, but I have kept the EQ at 0 (middle) on all strings because its perfect the way it is. The Henriksen seems to have a tube-like tendency to subdue the attack to the point where you don't have the typical excessive Solid State "punch". Think of it as a Tube Amp, without the tubes and without the noise often associated with tube amps.

Both amps are extremely powerful. Both amps are unbelievably portable. The H is dead quote. The P has a fair amount of hiss. The reverb in my Polytone is not very well dampened, so if someone walks past it while you are playing, you will hear springs rattle. The reverb in the Henriksen to me, is perfect. it doesn't overwhelm your sound as you raise the volume. On the Polytone if you raise the volume, you need to back off on reverb. All this of course is valid only if you get a Polytone that has a reverb that still works. Usually the contacts corrode on them and have to be cleaned. Then they work fine.

The Henriksen and Polytone both sound very similar to one another, but both tend to sound different in rooms you use them in. The closed cabinet on each amp gives a focused sound. To me, the Polytone sounds better when placed far away in a carpeted room. Close by the Henriksen wins. On a hardwood floor, the Henriksen wins. I don't know why, but that is my opinion.

Bottom line, The Polytone is great. The Henriksen is basically a perfected Polytone. The Henriksen will cost more. You cant go wrong with either one.

DV Mark Little Jazz is a cool small amp.
My current favorite is the Schertler Giulia.
Any small Fender amp will work fine too.

Can't find the weight for the 310, but the 312 is 40lbs. Ouch.

You'll probably get mixed answers on this one. I know there are people who love it. I wasn't one of them. I found it to be very noisy and I didn't especially like the way it sounded. Definitely not for me.

Thank you! I think now I have three options which are Little Jazz, Fishman Loudbox Mini and Schertler Giulia. As far as I can see they're small yet can be loud enough and they have a great tone so I think that now I have my final options to choose between. I am an aspiring learner currently so to be honest I prefer doing something closer to music and it's killing me when I spend a lot of time on my gear . Thank you guys for all the recommendations!

Thank you! I've tried to find both Henriksen and Polytone but they're extremely rare in Russia so I guess I'm gonna settle with options I've listed in my previous message.

These are all great choices for a small amp. I own the Little Jazz and the Giulia, and I just sold the Loudbox Mini.
    Here's a few observations:

    1. I never really liked the Loudbox Mini, though my bass player loved it for a practice amp. The tolex on this amp is very soft -- it will look ragged soon even if not abused. This is a very popular and capable amp for sure.

    2. I like the Little Jazz a lot. I've done small duo gigs with it and I find it very easy to get a nice jazz tone with this amp. The fan however, just plain sucks. I added a switch so that I can turn it off.

    3. The Schertler Giulia is a class above in terms of build quality and sound quality. Superb, sweet and clear. Very Hi Fi. Only downside here is I don't think the Giulia gets as loud as the other two amps.

I see. Well DV Mark is my number one priority I guess, it's not acoustic and I think it's the easiest one to find. Not mentioning the fact that it's the lightest.

ZT Lunchbox is your answer. Its the best small amp I ever had, and it is still my main gig amp. There is no gig it cant handle, and there is no louder amp around of this size. They also have acoustic version, maybe it would be better for your needs, but havent tried it yet.
