    LARGE Four-Stage Sanding Block

Has anyone tried this? Would it make picks smoother?

I got that pick-punch from mom for xmas lol. Not something I want but it's from her so I will always keep it.
When you punch the pick out of an old credit card or whatever there is no bevel, thus the need to sand, I guess.

Hmm get it but maybe no use for a regular pick?

Do they sell anything to make picks as pointy as they used to be after you practice the tip away?

just get some sandpaper. it does help with picks that have rough edges left from the factory.

but really any sandpaper or even good quality emery board will work..think manicures and synthetic nails...

    cheers

ps- you can get 4 stage sanding blocks for under 1$ each @ amazon..as a manicure product..

And I thought thst I was alone :-) Actually I use jewelers rouge and polish the edges after a light sanding with emery boards.

Whatever method is used in making them... stamping or injection molding it leaves sharp edges that make a higher pitched scratchy sound on the string.

Sanding and polishing definitely change the sound.

I "could" do the same thing by playing a lot more... hmmm maybe if I did this I would be a better player? :-)

Are you talking about sanding them to make them softer, or restoring the point to them like when they were new?

My D'Andrea tiny heavy teardrop picks don't ever need sanding. This thread is an eye opener for me.

In my case it's a little personal... I've come to enjoy medium picks because of I can play faster, have more dynamic range, a more acoustic sound, etc.. But they can be a little too bright sometimes, I pick with the side to compensate for that but stil - I wouldn't mind trying to sand them to see if it helps.

I'll check the video Pasi, thanks!

How about 240 and 400 grit wet and dry paper on T######sh#ll harvested from a broken Edwardian cosmetic set.

Then finally using metal polish soaked into old cotton tee shirt and then worked into the new pick.

    Nice

I had to buy some 80 sandpaper for my car, and tried it on a pick. I was able to get a better point than a new pick.

I used to be on the hunt for the perfect pick for years and years, and when I started sanding the edges it got me closer. But after trying D'Andrea Pro-pleks I don't have to sand anymore as their edges are always perfect.

I wouldn't sand a Pro Plec either... I've used them for some time but I use lighter picks now for several reasons and those benefit from sanding, I believe. I still need to do some testing!
