I don't think Mr. Wu is trying to imitate Gibson, but rather Benedetto. My first Wu is an 18" Super 400 copy, even says "Super 400" on the headstock which is also a Gibson copy, but while it's a very nice acoustic guitar, it's not much like a Gibson. It has a thinner top, for one thing. The only thing that keeps me from playing it all the time is the size. It's just too big for my comfort. After a fret level it plays very nicely, and with the Benedetto humbucker set into the top, it sounds great amplified. But it's big. Super 400 big.

Hmm.. I wouldn't say Wu guitars are anything like Gibson's. As the Snog said, he started out following Benedetto's book. They are probably most comparable to an Eastman though I find them to have a better finish and are not quite so bright.
Neither one of my Wu guitars required anything I wouldn't do to any other new guitar. I do the frets because I can do it myself and it's a small obsession to have them be as good as I can make them.
I still have all my Chinese semi-custom archtops (seven total, 2 Wu's, 5 Yunzhi's). I've sometimes wanted to buy something else just because and maybe I will one day but it isn't because I need anything else. Can't speak for current models, but mine have done well against the test of time.
