    I think of the non-reverb princeton as kind of a hidden gem in the Fender lineup.

    The PR is louder, but doesn't (to my ears) offer any more clean volume. The Non-verb princeton is pretty much clean ALL the way up. Dimed, there's that pleasant bit of break up--just barely, a little "hair" on the notes. Cool too, my tele neck pickup is still totally clean like this, but the bridge breaks up. FUN!

    Also, I'm not really a spring reverb guy, so I don't miss it.

    It's not a particularly loud amp, but it mic's up well for a bigger gig. There, I'll just dime it and adjust the amount of grit with the volume on my guitar.

    Another vote for the lowly Blues JR. I have one that I've been using for 22yrs and it's by far one of the best such combos on the market, that is once you swap out the speaker.
    With a decent speaker it's as warm and inviting as anything out there, will try and dig up a SoundCloud clip.
    Here's mine;

    What's the speaker swap you recommend?

    You didn't ask me but I recommend an Eminence Cannabis Rex for a 12" or Eminence L'il Buddy for a 10". These are hemp coned drivers that should smooth out the top end. I gather you are not looking for crunch.

    Mojotone even sells a 2x10 cabinet for the Blues Jr. amp.

    Oh yeah, check this out: http://billmaudio.com/wp/?page_id=295 .

    Jabberwocky nails it again, the Cannibis Rex is a great speaker, and Mojotone an excellent resource.

    Don't give forget the Superchamp X2 that you already tried. My head version through a Cannabis Rex kicked the ass of my Princeton Reverb for a straight ahead jazz tone. And at a third of the price !

    I am a lifetime black-face and silver-face amp user and I would recommend the Gries. They are essentially hand-built Fender styled amps with excellent components. I have two Gries 35s that are not make currently, but show up used regularly on the Gear Page for about $1k. I have used Cannabis Rex's in mine, but am currently favoring a Legend GB12. The master is extremely useful and it is a quiet amp. If I were going to shop new, I would look at the Gries 12.
