10 seconds at home, let sit overnight. Just a tiny dab, 5 mm long- maybe two at opposing corners. Use a small screwdriver or a corner of a credit card or something as an applicator. No need for a tech IMHO.

Hate the vinegar odour of silicone sealant.

Yeah, while we are on some ghost hunt, how about hot glue from a hot glue gun? Bad idea, probably, but I have a repository of those. Here's another: Chamois from the art shop. Cut a strip and wedge it in place. The yellow matches the sunburst and the gold-plated cover.

I'd stick with the D'Andrea plectrum as shim, Groyniad. It does not make a mess.

Just use a piece of old sock or other material and wedge it in. Works fine.

I bought my 175 in 1973. The bridge pickup buzzed. As a crude solution I wedged a sax reed between the PU and the mounting ring and broke off the surplus reed above the ring. It did the trick - and that reed is still there more than 40 years later.

a couple of points are worth making here i think

1 - i think i gave up gibson over 10 years ago because of the noise in the pickups. non of my boutique archtops had noise and vibration generated by pickups. but the solution is not to abandon gibson its to solve the noise problem. i had to solve the same problem with a sadowsky LS17 - which is now perfect - but was very irritating indeed.

2 - the problem is usually evident even if you just thumb the open strings firmly. one or two almost always generate strange vibrations and noises - and these just spoil the guitar something rotten. you can get rid of them and you should.

    ---

i grew up playing flute - a very large part of the project was to make the sound as clean and pure as you could. same will be true even for sexy jazz instruments like trumpet and sax (the dirt you put in is dirt you put in - not dirt that happens randomly in a way that is utterly beyond your control).

there is just no way that playing one of these instruments you would put up with an instrument that generated random non-musical noises IN the tone and vibrations through the instrument. the key-pad sounds are a totally different thing - they are predictable and you can control them to an extent - and they happen before the tone they are not part of it.

i don't mind that my 7k plus guitar requires this fix - its invisible - and all i care about is that it is properly fixed. if i could not properly fix it i would get rid of the guitar. (can hardly bear to say that)

I have taken the pick up out and wrapped a rubber band around the pick up at the base. when adjusted it will dampen the vibration. The purple ones from asparagus or broccoli works very good. They are free and good for you.
    Thanks john
