Hi. Just was lucky to find this 880 at a great price. It should be in my hands late next week I hope. I do not have the serial number, but it has the earlier gold witch hat tone and volume knobs. Does anyone know where I can get the new style rosewood knobs?. I tried to call Eastman in Ca. but I guess they are off till Monday. Anyone know if they are available anywhere else?
Eastman in Pomona is probably where I would start, as you have done. I don't think those knobs were ever stock on the JP model, they must have been swapped out somewhere along the way. I have a 05 880 I bought new and it has the ebony type with the white pointer. You may want to look in the case when it arrives and see if the person that swapped them out stashed them in one of the little faux velvet bags if it has the original case.
I love mine and my guess is you'll be fond of yours. Congrats!
Someone pulled the stock Pisano knobs for top hats. No JP 880 came with those. Call Sound Pure on the east coast...they move as much or more Eastman product as anyone. They should be able to hook you up. Congrats on the Pisano!
Can't be of much assistance with your serial number. My 880 came with a certificate/warranty card, it matches the label inside the guitar that has the serial number C-46 and the date 7/11/05. The guys at Eastman will have a better idea when you talk to them about the non-stock knobs. What year was it represented as? Obviously mine was a early issue. The JP became one of their most popular models and for good reason. If yours has bound F-holes I think they started doing that around 07ish.
Those were never stock, Pisano had a lot of input on that design. He's got bad eye sight and the combination of those knobs with the markers and the side inlays on the fingerboard binding (you'll notice the LARGE markers) make it easier for him to see in a dim venue... Call Eastman and get them to double check the serial number and help you get stock knobs... You could also search out and join the Eastman Guitars Facebook Group, a couple good Eastman reps work that group and are quite helpful...
And by the way, my hen Poppy does not like you guys using chicken head knobs...
I am going to wait till the guitar is in my hands. Its somewhere in the air right now between Cali and NC. I am hoping the orig. knobs are in the case. Also, I am not sure what case it will have. If its an orig. Eastman fiberglass one I will not need an upgrade.
Nope. I just got off the phone with Eastman in California and they are supposed to call back if they have them in stock. They had the knobs, but only in rosewood. If they look off on the guitar I will dye them ebony. The parts guy at Eastman was awesome, and even though I bought it used they are sending them free-only paying postage. A great way to inspire loyalty. Try getting any parts out of Gibson unless you are the orig. owner and have your great grandmother still alive to swear to it.
I have found the guys in Pomona very helpful. When Eastman was first getting going with guitars the HQ was in Maryland and the rep was named Gordon. He was also very helpful however not with them any longer as far as I know.
So how do you like the 880?
The guitar is awesome. It fits my body perfectly and the neck feels like it was made for me. I have only been playing it acoustically. The volume is on the low side, but the tone and harmonics are there. Both B Street an Eastman have been great to work with, and I think Eastman understands that a lot of their clientele are semi or pro musicians and good support will gain them alot with their reputation and they need that to overcome the "made in China" thing. Its something the big "G" forgot many years ago. Have you ever tried to get parts from them?
Good news that you are happy with the JP! Indeed you will find just about every player that has a JP or spent time with one raves about the neck profile and playability. I'm in that club. The 16" body is also very comfortable to be with for long gigs. I think you will be very pleased when you plug it in-they are a great sounding guitar. I use mine primarily with the big band I work with as it is more feedback resistant than my Benedetto.
I've not tried to get parts from Gibson. Good luck with the knobs.

I think what you need is to find some examples of what you're looking for in professional recordings and see what they're doing. If you can't figure it out I'm sure someone here could help...
No, the guitar and piano charts are not the same (except for the treble clef passage in question), and I have seen the same direction on other arrangements. The usual convention is to write guitar...
The sound occurred by accident in a rehearsal of the classic George Shearing Quintet. A piano melody line was meant to be doubled in unison by Margie Hyams on vibes and Chuck Wayne on guitar but...
I looked it up on Google and It’s not a guitar thing. It’s a piano thing.
Locked hands, blocked chords playing the melody in unison with both hands.
On the Quintet recordings Chuck Wayne...
