Is there one? I see guitars played by Hendrix at Woodstock, Clapton's "Blackie" etc. going for astronomical sums. Is there one in the jazz historical context? I would guess anything played by Wes, Django for certain, but after that .....

yes, but probably more by maker than player.

D'Aquisto's have been listed for $100K. Don't know what they sold for. There was the Ziedler project guitar which had an asking price of $125K. Benedetto's 45th anniversary Cremona had an asking price of $80k.

Here's a starting point. Freddie Green's Stromberg was up for $90k not too long ago:

I guess you gotta spend your money on something.

why was that guitar so special compared to the countless others he played? (Lennon I mean)

Not a jazz guitar but I would think Tony Rice's 1935 D-28 previously owned by Clarence White is worth a bundle.

I just posted a link to a story about Charlie Christian's guitar, recently found.

I heard that he wrote a lot of the earlier hits on it. Love Me Do being one I recall.

Yeah.. they were not great sounding guitars as acoustics goe. P90s are not great acoustic pickups.

Estimate was in the 800K range which sounds a little low considering the guitar but when I saw 2.4 .. wow.

I'm wondering why the estate didn't make a claim on it? When artwork is 'misappropriated', the auction houses have to freeze a sale until legal disputes are settled. Why not in this case? Perhaps the Lennon estate is rich enough...

Agree on the not great sounding acoustic statement. What George Martin did in the studio with those guys is nothing short of genius.

Didn't Gabor Szabo play J160 E early on?

They did if I understand correctly. Yoko split the proceeds 50/50 with the seller.
