What is a Metheny strap? Don't feel rushed to answer though, cause I am definitely into leather.

    Is it a vegan strap?

I bought a bag of the Grolsch rubber tabs on Ebay. I use it with a leather strap that's a little too large. They were only a few bucks and I got a couple hundred of them. They work great on my Eastman.

Just a hint for everyone in Europe.
Richter Straps made of 4mm thick bull leather. Made for life.

Musicstore Köln sells some of em on special offer for 59€ instead of 199€.
Mine arrived yesterday, never had a better strap!

I just emailed Stacy, and hopefully they'll send a replacement, but, even then I'm concerned about trusting my 1932 L-5 to it when the leather was so easily sliced-though.
I added this to the original post, but I also want to put it here: I'm gonna own up to user error on this one. When I was removing the headstock extension from the headstock, it snagged on the B string, and I yanked it. It didn't occur to me at first, but after messing with the strap for a while, I can see that it when it must've happened.

I'm not gonna claim shoddy workmanship, because I basically garroted the thing. Still, it could probably use to be a bit more durable. I taped the piece up, and it seems to hold fine, so I'll use it for a little while. I'll probably just have a leather crafting friend make me a new extension out of something a bit more durable.

Stacy emailed back right away, asking for pictures about how I mounted it. I haven't gotten back yet, but I'll definitely own up to my user error.

I have one of Stacey's straps--I like it ok, except for the metal hardware near the headstock. I had Eldorado make me a custom strap--just like their mando strap, but at a length that I specified for guitar--no metal! You just thread it through the headstock like you would on an F5's scroll. It's pretty narrow, but for a lightweight guitar no problem--I'm guessing they'd do one up in a custom width if desired.

    How did it end?

I never emailed Stacy - I gotta go do that. I just taped the thing up, and the cut isn't at a fulcrum point, so it seems sound for now. I'll update after I email.

I always buy my straps at webstore Thomann, their house-brand Harley Benton offers greats straps that are cheap and all my guitars are fitted with their leather straps.

Which had little or nothing to do with or without a strap. Wes could play that little red guitar Tal Farlow played in the black and white video and also sound great! :-)
