hmmm, that one has a rosewood board like the originals and what look to be repro prewar Kluson Sealfast catalin button tuners, nice touch. the repro '60s Gibson L-5 'custom' truss rod cover is interesting too.

I wonder how he escapes Gibson's wrath w/the moustache headstock though. they've hassled more than a few smaller production luthiers over it...

Roger, your video and pics enticed me to check out Daniel's website. I really like the sound and look of his instruments, and the CC pickup really appeals to me. From my limited amount of research/listening, the CC pickups appear to have a distinctive sound.

Daniel is making those tuner buttons: Tuners - New Vintage Guitars

And the "Custom" truss rod cover was something that Pat apparently insisted on.

Wow a stunning sounding and looking guitar. Did you specify a thicker top? What was the thought process there, sure works

Lol I just saw the CC, kinda answers my own question.

Another small detail to note is that the CC pickup is very sensitive to height adjustments. Just a quarter turn (90º) up or down on the two main screws nearest the pickup really changes its sensitivity and frequency response. Since making these two videos, I've dialed it down just that much, and the resulting tone is both softer and more articulate in the trebles. It's very nice, but definitely requires tweaking. Compared to a PAF style humbucker, the CC pickup lacks compression. It's rather immediate in its attack. That is perfect for single note lines, but a bit less convenient for certain types of rhythm playing where you want the chords to "swell" a bit.

Sounds great Roger, I especially like the tone on the bass strings. It sounds to me like you're using a rather thin pick, but making it work much better than I get ever get a thin pick to sound! I think you deserve to buy yourself a nice b&w striped pullover shirt.

Love the look, the sound, and the playing! Color me "jealous".

I have the jones for a Slaman nylon string archtop. The jones but not the scratch.....

@bananafist, sorry, the nut width is 1 23/32". I just measured. In between 11/16" and 3/4".

Fantastic specimen! You have a collection to be surely envied, and most importantly you play them well and really get a player's life out of them! Love the accompanying story, a lot of great guitar stories have a "sister-guitars" relationshp in them.

Very nice! Looks and sounds great! Nice playing also. Daniel makes beautiful guitars in the Gibson tradition. His atelier is within walking distance of my house and I've heard and seen several of his guitars from guitarists here in town (also the ones owned by Axel Hagen with whom I followed some lessons at some point) and they are without exception excellent guitars!

Drifter gets it... noodling is my specialty. (thanks)

Actually the first video is a snippet of one of my own songs. The second one is definitely noodlage.

Beautiful guitar, and an excellent choice on your part. Great playing as well :-) little out of my budget right now, but it makes me want one!

Jeez. Ron Carter is such a graceful bass player with such a gorgeous tone. Oh yeah, and Pat Metheny was playing too. ;-)

that Slaman really makes a different dimension in his tone. It's refeshing.

Thank you SO much for posting that! Long-awaited and hard to find, it was! He sounds so different than me on that guitar, and it's not just the notes and general musicianship/talent. It's the tone. Same EXACT guitar - goes to show you. You can really hear the mic'd signal in the mix, too; it adds a lot of life to the electric tone.
