Last year I shipped a guitar to Japan. Within an hour of dropping it off at the USPS office I realized I sent the wrong guitar. Now the post office was closed. I called their help line. They said they will stop it in Chicago and return it to me.
Oops. They didn't stop it, so off it went to Japan. They said no problem. Just have the guy in Japan refuse it, and I'll get it back.
Five days later he did refuse it. It took a full six months before I got the box back. There was no tracking. Every week or so I call the USPS help line. All they could say is that it isn't reported as missing. They told me that the USPS waits for a ship is filled before they return packages to the US.
In the end I lost some money and had suffered some anxiety. But now I am able to tell a story.

You sent the wrong guitar halfway around the world?

"At any rate, monday will be 21 days and I'll probably file a dispute by EOB on monday if there is no movement in the tracking department. I can understand delays but no information is frustrating."
Jack, I'd say go ahead and file that dispute. No harm can come out of that. Good luck!

Sorry but i doubt DHL has much to do with the politics of shipping a guitar to the USA. After 9/11 when the USA was very busy, once the flying ban was lifted, business commenced as usual. I doubt DHL in germany is just sitting around smoking cigarettes now that they are taking refugees into their country.

Sorry, I was in Turkey early last week, as you know Syria is next to Turkey on the global map, but I know that transport to Europe was chaotic.

I thought it strange that someone who's sig is a quote from Gandhi would create such a post. I accept your explanation with the caveat that you accept that how it was perceived was not comical. You made a poor joke with no malice intended and I misinterpreted it. Let's put the matter to rest and hope Jack gets his guitar asap.

Update - tracking now shows the guitar is in the hands of USPS

That's great Jack.
I hope it goes smoothly from here.

Glad to hear your guitar is in the hands of USPS now Jack. Fingers crossed. At least the weather is relatively cooler than say last week, we're only going to be in the high 60s here in Jersey today, it was so nice out yesterday I spent the morning playing on my back porch and then front porch...
As for jokes poorly received. I've had my hissy fits here and swore I was gonna leave and never come back, and yet here I am. This is a nice group of gear crazy folks, you fit in. Take a few days off to smell the roses and live a little. You'll find you miss us old gear heads... I hope...

A quick lesson in comedy for you Guy: the guy who makes the poor joke, does not receive the apology. Have you ever heard the phrase "if you have to explain it, it's not funny"…this is a classic example. Please note that I did not request an apology from you, but simply that you accept that you made a bad joke, and I (publicly) accepted your explanation. I thought post #34 was pretty straight forward and left the matter resolved. I hate to think that this could drive you away from the forum as that serves no one. I cannot speak for anyone but myself but I would be willing to bet that if you would let this error remain resolved, everybody here would move forward, talking Ad nauseam about Jazz Guitar, and your input would be welcomed.

Well at least you finally have an update! I had a situation last Dec. like yours. The guitar was tracked into the US and then nothing for two weeks. The guitar was delivered without any updates to the carriers site , it did show up as delivered about a week later so theres always hope. My carrier was EMS shipped from Japan. Hopefully it arrives safe and sound. Bob

got the guitar yesterday. Both pickups were inside the body. Apparently they unscrewed the pickup adjustment screws and mounting rings looking for contraband and didn't think it was important to restore it back to its previous state.

Glad the guitar made it to you; waiting while a guitar, especially an archtop, bounces around in shipping is nerve-wracking. In the 90's I wasn't home to sign for my Heritage Johnny Smith, UPS then sent it on a 2+ week journey around the country before attempting re-delivery (Pac. Northwest to Florida, then north up the east coast before coming back to the northwest).
any damage from the loose pu's?Last edited by MaxTwang; 09-22-2015 at 03:47 PM.

Yeah - why would anyone go to all the trouble of importing a guitar from Germany unless there was something illegal inside it ?! Maybe some contraband TI Swings ?
-
You know I'm awaiting delivery on a package all the way from Florida (to New York). Fed Ex was posting delay warnings due to the upcoming papal visit.
As someone who was raised a Catholic, I have a modicum of respect for the head of a large institution, that for better worse, has had a large role through history. But sometimes I wish he would just stay home in Rome and tend to his business there, without producing massive traffic delays and diversions.
Doesn't strike me as unreasonable that refugee airlifts might throw a monkey wrench into transport protocols.
-
I have to be in the city on Friday for business. Not looking forward to this. Perhaps a papal indulgence would be in order.

Guy, I really hope this is another joke.
