I have a couple of Stealth 10's and i'm wondering how they compare to the NY 8.
I like the Stealth 10's a lot, but sometimes something smaller would be easier to carry. Could anyone, who knows both, describe the difference in sound between these two?
TIA

I used to own both. The Stealth 10 gave me more volume and better coverage but I thought the NY 8 sounded better and needed less power. If volume was a non-issue, then I always used the NY8.

The NY8 is a fine little cabinet, but I much prefer the S10 for most situations. It's more open, more neutral and puts out more sound. The difference in weight is just a couple of pounds, although the S10 is bulkier. If I had to travel by subway again, I'd prefer the 8.
I gigged with a NY8 for about six months, during which time I decided that it really didn't sound any better than the AI Coda combo I had been using and was more fiddly to set up. I also found it very hard for me to hear onstage, so I added a stand. I never had that problem with any of my other RE cabs or the AI combos.

I have only used the NY8, and thought it sounded GREAT. (I have a strong preference for the sound of sealed and bass-reflex cabinets with good, 8" speakers. I think they sound very natural with guitars.)
However, I watched Jimmy Bruno play through a RE with one 10" speaker from a distance at which I could have grabbed the guitar out of his hands, and at a more reasonable listening distance, at the Philadelphia Vintage Show some years back. He was playing an Unger American Archtop into an AI head, into the RE cabinet. That ten sounded better with that rig than maybe _any_ other setup I have heard anybody else using. (The Unger, by the way, sounded as good as the Benedetto that JB favored at the time. Both sound better than his Sadowsky, IMO, which still sounds pretty darned good.)
If you like your Stealth, you might find that it is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. If carrying it is a problem, then the NY8 is a great sounding alternative.

I have both and think the 10 has more bass response. I like the 10 for a dark sound, the 8 for a bright sound (some rooms are so dark that you need the brightness). The 10 does weigh a bit more (I think it is 2 extra pounds as Danny said) and is bulkier so the 8 is easier to carry, but they do sound different.

I have them both.
S10 = more pa like, more bass, more clear more open, more defined trebles.
NY8 = more compressed, more mids, more mellow.
For fingerstyle or if you want the sound to be more transparent, IMO definitely S10. But for single lines / bebop work I would actually choose ny8. If I had to choose just one cab to have, it would definitely be the s10 though - I feel it is much more versatile, especially the er version.

I have a couple of S10's and they are my favorite cabinets. I used a NY8 on a couple of gigs and found it to have less bass, so I didn't buy it. I also have a S12, but I prefer my S10 over that one as well.

I tried the NY8 with a vintage ES-175, which was my main gigging guitar at that time. I had a regular gig in a restaurant, so I knew the sound of the room pretty well. I also took mt S10 as well and I switched back and forth a few times during the gig. I found that my S10 just had a little more bottom end and was more satisfying to me. Having said that, I have a friend who plays a Super 400CES through a NY8 (wiith a Clarus head) and he loves it. I have been to his gigs and he gets a great sound with that combination.

the biggest differences are that the 8 sounds more boxy and has less bottom and more top end. I'm not crazy about either of them , frankly. A pair of 8s sound pretty good though if you get far enough away from them. I don't like either cab if it's close behind you.
The NY8 also is a bit better for feedback rejection since it doesn't develop the bottom end of the 10 or 12

Can you have too many RE cabinets? I have three and could be persuaded still... love my NY 8! I got mine for $225 on eBay and was ecstatic.

@Vernon, I have four RE Cabs. I think I have enough. Any more than that and I would feel like I am trying to corner the market...
