    Hi Winter,

Thanks for the comments and the info on the case. I didn't know that. To be fair to the seller, he never said it was the original case, I just kind of assumed that is was. That's not a concern for me, but just curious how you know the era of the case? The pink velour?

    Cheers, Chris

yeah, Gibson was using pink lining in the 30s on their tweed Geib model 600 L-5 cases and again w/the prewar leather covered Super 400 cases, but the pink lining w/brown leatherette covering is post war.

that and the handle is a giveaway...

@ Joe D. A happy wife is a happy life. You will arrive one day Bro. I know it. When you do get your DA, John D. will be smiling from up above knowing that an Italian American jazz guitarist with chops is playing one of his masterpieces.

@ Chris. Trading gear for art is very wise. When I got my first DA I couldn't help opening the case constantly and staring at her and smiling. When I took it out to my first gig with her, I had this incredible feeling that I was somehow connected to that small group of jazzmen of the 30's, 40's and 50's who played John D.'s guitars. I felt both humbled and honored. My absolute favorite guitars ever are Gibson electric archtops and D'Angelico acoustic archtops ( Gibson acoustic archtops and the Guild Artist Award come next on the list) .

@ Wintermoon. What DA's do you own? Inquiring minds want to know.

First of all, there is no such thing as an original DAngelico case - as DAngelico supplied different kinds of cases with the guitars depending on the customers budget. However, in the 30s this is the most seen original type case for DAs: dark grey outside, eggplant lining, Geib case

Looking at the fine '39, almost makes one feel bad for the blokes who got the "deals" on the sold guitars.

Man oh man, just look at that - A step back in time!

Just to ad the the archive of case details.

The pink case that came with my '39 D'A is a Lifton, but according to the experts the case is from a 40's or 50's.
