The Gibson open book headstock belongs to the company the same way as their logo, there is a reason why people drool over it too...
-
So are you going to play some Chazz on it?
-
How about Chomping at the Chavoy? Chella By Charlight? Slow Boat to China?
-
Don't overlook, "Chinatown, My Chinatown", "Chopsticks" and "Chardust."

Too bad that the customs in my country are really rigorous when it comes to importing goods with protected trademark logo on it. I read on their site that they actually received some European award for this. They would confiscate anything which is counterfeit, Chinese "iPhones", bags and dresses that some women order, sunglasses, even booklets, and they don't care if it's for personal use or not, just one item or more, so I wouldn't risk.
And I actually don't care about the logo and the serial number and Made in USA thing on the back, and I don't have a clue why would anybody want a guitar like that, I personally would be ashamed if somebody would ask me something like: "Wow, is that a Gibson? How much did you pay for it?" I just want the freaking guitar!
Although some people are shameless. Once I saw in the ads a "Gibson Les Paul" that allegedly is genuine, but it's clearly not, it is one of these, you can see by several characteristics, and most certainly by the bridge. But they put a price like 1000 Euros for a Gibson Les Paul and hope that somebody will bite for it.Last edited by aleksandar; 08-12-2015 at 04:37 PM.

Bill Nash doesn't build guitars - he assembles them from parts suppliers and relics the finishes on them. These days they sport Nash logos. Elliot Mechanic never built guitars. They were built for him from scratch by Brian Monty. Brian does not put Fender markings on his Tele or Strat-style guitars.

+1, big time.

No elephant involved at all.

US Customs confiscates counterfeit goods if they find them. If you can find a decent quality counterfeit the economic considerations might override the legal ones, but it's risky in regards to both quality and the law.
I bought a Chretsch on AliExpress. Turned out not to be the guitar in the photos. Supposed to be a Falcon but had the measurements of a Nashville. Incredibly shoddy in every possible way, to the point where if I changed every single part except the body and neck it would still be crap (and getting to be expensive crap). I threw it in the garbage.
The amount I paid for it was less than the amount I would hope to negotiate off the retail price off a new Falcon. In the grand scheme of things, not that big of a loss.
Counterfeit watches of reasonable quality can be found - it's a chance one takes. I break the law every day I drive on the freeway so I have no room to pontificate on the legalities here.
About the Falcon quest ... after tossing the Chretsch I bought a used Epi Broadway on eBay and am in the process of turning it into a sort of blonde falcon. Stay tuned ...Last edited by BigDee62; 08-15-2015 at 11:08 AM.

As former owner of diferent Gibsons (175, 165, 335, LP Standard, LP Custom, 350T, Super 400) and current owner of two Gibson L5 Studios and one Yunzhi, I would take a $ 7500 Gibson as the one offered by Danny W. over 8 Yunzhis any time.

Sometimes I wonder why people pick the guitars they do. People will buy what they want for whatever reasons they have, but is it the neck, finish, frets, woodwork, materials, et al or something else? I play my teachers L5's all the time (bought back in the day) and they are nice enough but they don't play or sound better than my similar models. My view is that it must be 'something else'.

Eight guitars means you get 16", 17", 18" models, maple and mahogany, shaded and natural, oval and f hole, floating, built in, and no pickup. I replace the hardware and they're good to go. Out of the eight, only one is giving me problems which is consistent with experience others have had. The rest will perform the function they were designed to do just fine. And they are each different and I enjoy all of them. A single L5 would not begin to cover it.
And, finally, I would rather have one high end custom built (many choices for $15K) than two L5's. But then, now that I've had many different archtops, I could name the functional reasons why.Last edited by Spook410; 09-15-2015 at 02:31 AM.

Beautiful Guitar may I ask what you paid for it and where you purchased it from. I just placed an order yesterday for one but it's black I would love a natural sunburst.
Thanks Damon

In post #15 he says what it cost and where it was bought.

Looks nice, but I don't like the use of the Gibson logo as it is not a Gibson. In fact it is a bit embarrassing. However I've seen Loars and Hofners selling in the UK second hand for the same price, so I don't see the point.
