Congratulations! That looks like a fine Eagle Classic. BTW do you know which pickups it has?

Congrats. The Eagle Classic is a great value in an American archtop.

You don't need to have downward pressure on the tailpiece finger for the guitar to function. But if the guitar is new, Heritage should replace the tailpiece.

They had been getting the tailpieces from Allparts. They are not the more expensive units that come from Germany. Nonetheless, I've never had a screw hole strip.

If you do replace the tailpiece with an ebony one, make sure it grounds the strings.

Sweet Eagle. Those are great jazz boxes and as MG said, an excellent value.

As for the tailpiece, the screw was most likely over torqued at some point. If you want to replace it, there are a number of fine replacements available.

If you want to salvage the current one, you might be able to find a matching screw...or...purchase a used tailpiece. New, they can run as high as $450. Used ones however, can be found for under $100.

Thanks guys! I will try and put some sort of demo out there but I have no mic or camera at school.

Haven't made a decision yet on the bridge, but I do like the idea of a 175 tailpiece or maybe a Tal or Kessel style.

Really nice guitar! I love the plain ebony fretboard.

I think it'd look amazing with an ebony pickguard and tailpiece.

I wouldn't change a thing. While you may not take to the stylized pickguard right away, there's a good chance that you'll grow to appreciate it. I've got several Heritage guitars, some with the unique curvy Heritage pickguard, and others with traditional guards; and while at first I had a strong preference for the traditional black guard, I grew to love the curvy one since it just screamed "Heritage".

Beautiful guitar! I concur with Klatu that the pickguard/fingerrest works well with the lines of the guitar, not to mention the inimitable Heritage shading. Tailpiece piece failure is a bit of a bummer, but easily dealt with. Congratulations, and play it in good health!

you might try a little plumbers tape on that screw.
it might make it useful until the replacement arrives.
