    Hey,

    New Guitar Day!

Just bought a new Epiphone ES175 Premium (natural). Have been reading up on this guitar on this forum. I watched some recent tutorial video's from the hand of Dirk and these pushed me finally over the edge ...

I've played a couple, for the price a very agreeable guitar, considering some of the other stuff Ive tried in that price range.

    Enjoy :-)

    Thanks

It was a while since I had a "real" Jazz Box. It will take some adjustment in the beginning I guess.

Now on the quest for that perfect jazz amp...

Cool, I have wnated to try one myself, as they have been given such good reviews, but they are hard to find in my neck of the woods.

I played several before choosing the one I bought. Each time 2 specimen side by side. My impression is that quality is rather consistent, so if you are convinced of buying one you can quite safely order one at an online retailer like Thomann.

I came to the conclusion that the naturals sounded best. This was not influenced by the looks of the guitar, other people in the shop picked the naturals out as the best sounding too.
There was a mirror in the shop and while I fancy the naturals the most, I looked best with the sunburst (clothes with light colors don't become me either, haha). I let my ears decide and walked out with a natural .

Wonderful! This might be sacrilegious, but my favorite guitar in the bunch I own is my 1996 Epiphone Emperor Regent. I don't know what that means for the rest of my guitars. May mean nothing. I do know this, and opinions may differ, I'd rather get a guitar that is decently enough built for under $1k USD and spend a little on getting it set up perfectly and maybe any hardware upgrades that are honestly necessary.

I have honestly contemplated selling off my Heritages. Not because they aren't up to snuff... But honestly because, at several times the cost, they just don't move me like the $450 USD Epi I picked up a few months ago.

    Play in good health!

These premium 175 in "natural" are really teasing me, at that price point it seems a very good option.
I guess if I did not already have a 24.75 16 incher Archtop (Joe Pass) I could probably convince Wify the man needs it...
Apparently (not personally heard) they even have a convincing "thunk" which most 175 style copies (I heard) don't even have.

I have no doubt a properly setup Regent could be one's favorite guitar; I feel this way regarding its neck at least when compared to my 2 Gibson. I can achieve a much better action and feel on both my Epis than my Gibsons.
That is why when I will be ready for spending 3K or so on a used TF it will need to have a very good neck...

That neck does spoil me. Absolutely love it. Variety is the spice of life, so I won't be letting my other guitars go any time soon. Haha.

I do hope to augment my meager collection with a Gretsch CC, Gretsch Synchromatic G400, Gretsch Historic G3900 (also Peerless) and a Guild X170.

I didn't need it, but hey tax returns have to be spent...

The "thunk" is definitely there. I have to put flatwounds on it to be able to judge the guitar properly, and of course adapt my playing style a bit (a lot) since it has been a while I played on that kind of guitar.

Also: the closest amp I have to a "jazz amp" is a cube 40ex, which is still not ideal...

Of course, it is all in what you're after but the Epi ES175 and the Cube 40 is very serviceable.

Will do. I'm sure I'll pay it in the For Sale area. Won't be anytime soon if I do. That isn't a potential mistake I'd want to make lightly. You see, my wife's great uncle uncle is one of the founders of Heritage. So those guitars are more than just tone generators. They are, in a sense, family.
