Just flat EQ (everything in the middle), drive low, level as required. Voice somewhere near 9'o'clock.

Sounds good for practice and recording - for me. You may find a different setting is best for your needs.

For live work, in general, you tend to need more mid, so I usually have the 'voice' set higher. Only problem is this tends to increase the preamp gain making the sound more distorted, so depending on which guitar I am using it can be a battle to keep it clean.

Because of this I have started using an EQ pedal instead on gigs.

(EDIT: I suppose I could just increase the mid on the amp, but I don't like the way this sounds on the AER which can get a mid heavy as things get louder (it's an Alpha). I suspect a Henriksen 112 or a PA speaker, or perhaps the Mambo would respond better. Without trying them on gigs, I couldn't say.)

I have a Joyo American and a SansAmp "Blonde." They sound very similar, the Sansamp has a better switch and looks cleaner wiring wise inside.

I'm very impressed with the sound of these in front of a relatively transparent solid state amp. Cut the mids on say, a polytone to get it "flat", plug into one of these and control EQ from there, and it's a whole lot of Fender vibe on the cheap.

Quick question for you - does the character dial work the same way as on the Joyo? Does it make the tone more distorted?

EDIT: it appears from the video I just watched that this is the case....

Yes, character adds mids and dirt...kinda goes from black to tweed.

The tone of the joyo and tech21 are almost identical to my ears...

My neighbor has the Joyo American pedal, and through my Henriksen it sounds great! I will try it through the Passport once it's in.

Yes you did, but you are man enough to apologise which is of course accepted.
There is no animosity here, it's a great Forum, I have had no end of good advice
and obtained all of my existing amps ,and some Archtops by recommendation and
endorsement by members, some of whom are seasoned professionals. The only
downside is it encourages us to spend more than we should , GAS is prevalent.

    kind regards

There is a limit to the volume a PRRI can put out, but I've found that using a 5751 in V1 and a high sensitivity speaker will definitely increase perceived volume. I've used a 10" Red Fang in my PRRI before and it certainly made it louder -- and, unfortunately, heavier as well. Also, always make sure to point the amp at your ears, not your knees

I knew I could put that book to a good use.
    Sorry for the hijack.

kemper or atomic amplifire are probably the two smallest ways.

So, further update (maybe I should do I Joyo thread separately.) Tried the Joyo straight through a PA while away. It sounded pretty good.

I didn't use it though, because there was a perfectly nice Koch valve amp (a Twin Tone) for me. I rate this amp! Quite heavy though - about the same weight as the Bassman.

Ok just gigged the PPRI with drums with my new speaker, with both a Strat and an Ibanez archtop. And pleased to report that PPRI + Eminence Lil Buddy is basically my idea of tonal Nirvana. So I would recommend the amp, but especially with a new speaker, as others have...

Zoom MS100bt (possibly also the MS50 version). They go for about $150 new. It does amp modeling (8 models included and more available) plus lots of other goodies- reverb, delays, choruses, etc., etc. I use one as the front end into an Alto TS110a powered speaker and have been delighted for the past six weeks or so. Mostly I use a hall reverb, a touch of compression and an added model of an Acoustic 360 bass amp with my archtops. My Tele seems to prefer a Twin Reverb model. The amp models include multiple speaker emulation options and very flexible EQ. The digital signal processing has good fidelity- probably not as good as the Kemper or Eleven Rack, of course, but those are much more powerful and expensive (and not the size of a stomp box).

This has basically replaced my RE 12" cab and my AI Clarus and tweed Deluxe heads- I haven't used them since I got this setup. I have been getting lots of compliments on my tone from musicians, audience members, etc.

So glad that you've solved the problem the PPRI is an excellent amp especially modded with a different
speaker, mine was a Ragin' Cajun. I just wish that I had the technical expertise to modify amps in the
way that some of our Forum colleagues find quite easy ! I noted that you use an Ibanez Archtop , a good
choice too. Having had many of them I always extol their virtues, I"ve had my GB100 fpr 17 years without
any issues at all, in fact it is as good or better than many a Gibson i've lost patience with. Good luck with
your "Nirvana". I feel sure that when the coffers swell with funds , you will want to augment with
    a.n. other.

    Best, Silverfoxx
