Since I got a Mambo wedge I appreciate the sound of a tilted speaker! Now I wonder how to do this with my heavy tube amp (30kg). Is there a save way to do this? I want the amp to be on the floor, not lift it up on a stand or chair.

I use a Mambo Wedge myself but I also have a Matamp head and 2x12 cab that I use as well. I made a wooden amp stand for the Matamp but I also have an ISO Acoustics amp stand that has adjustable tilt angle and handles amps of around 100 pounds in weight, it raises the amp about 6/7 inches off the floor.

Thanks. This ISO amp stand is interesting. But it doesnt protect the amp from falling back, hm?

I use a chair. Don't tilt the amp back at all. As long as the amp is off the ground I'm happy, otherwise it's too bass heavy for my taste. Even when I had a mambo I still put it up on a chair so the difference between that and my big tube amp wasn't a great deal.

I use this: standback amp stand I have a small 15 watt tube amp, YMMV (If I don't have that, I use my coat, effect case... whatever is handy)

doh! in the time it took me to post this, jazzbow beat me to it, sorry for the redundancy...

Twin Reverb amplifiers came standard with "tilt back legs" which allowed the amplifier to be tilted at an angle backwards, so the speakers faced at a more upward angle, promoting better distribution of their output to an audience when placed on a low stage.

I like these, also. I installed them on my Mustang IV V2 and also put them on my Frontman 212r and Champion 100.

I use amp stands that raise the amplifier and tilt it back. I have also used one when I played bass in a country band. I had a small Ampeg B50 combo, which was plugged into the PA through its DI out (we had a PA with subs). I put the Ampeg on the stand and aimed it at the drummer's head so we could lock in.

With guitar amps I gig with a combo so a stand is easily accommodated -- the one exception is my Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight which is a head/cab, but the head's legs nest in magnetic sockets on the speaker, so it's the equivalent of a combo. l have a lovely DRRI head on a Weber 15 cabinet, but it stays in my music room: my '59 Bassman LTD will fit on a stand as well.

I play bass in my current combo, and I guess I need to get my guitarist to use a stand.

For what it's worth, I got my first stand after playing my 100W guitar combo at a gig and finding it inaudible -- while I was frying the audience.

Sorry for the late reply. I've had this stand for a long time (don't remember where I picked it up). It is very sturdy (easily holds my 85 lb Mark lll Boogie) at just the right angle and just slightly off the floor.

I made one of these. The thing in front is for a clip-on mic.

I have Fender Tilt-back legs on all my tube-amps (two Twin Reverbs that came with them and a Blues Deluxe that I put them on myself), those work great and are stable

I must say I don't always use them, sometimes I prefer to raise the amp. I usually ask the venue-owner for a bottle crate, or even two stacked:

I cover the bottle crate with my amp cover, looks better

Otherwise I'll improvise with chairs, walls or whatever.

The main thing is I don't want to lug around another item. I'm even too lazy to carry a guitar stand.

I have tilt back legs on mine. But I usually prefer to get it up off of the floor. A crate a chair whatever works.

I use these. Each has a bass port reflex at the bottom, redirecting the sound normally lost out of the back of an open back cabinet, to the lower from of the stand. The Princeton Reverb stand was made by our very own Josh at Atlas Stands.

I'm not familiar with the Smith. I know that E-MD went out of business a while back. Is Smith a reincarnation of E-MD? If the Smith is anything at all like the Sound Enhancer, or better . . you'll be shocked and amazed at the difference it makes for open back combos.

Just went to eBay and took a look. Yeah . . the Smith is the same one I have under a different name. That Vox looks pretty darn good sittin' proud on top of that Sound Enhancer. You should definitely jump on it.
