Wow ... no GK !
Thanks Kris.
I sold my VG99 and don't need any guitar synth now but it's nice to see Boss/Roland making giant steps like that.
I would have bought the GP10 just for its effects but unfortunately it was only dual channel if you would use the GK input.
The big superiority of most Boss multieffects / guitar synth is the enormous potential for modulating several parameters with one controller.
I feel some new GT coming, dual channel, dual input, mmmm ... keep it up Boss !

the vid with Gundy Keller is rather cool...

Thanks for the links...

I'm interested.

very interested, particularly if it accurately renders midi out in a way that would allow me to use it for input into notation software.

Maybe next step will be guitar synth. with standard cable and USB midi out...;-)

Boss SY-300 F.A.Q
The best place for info, imho.

I must have one of these... but would love to see a video of someone playing it for chordal accompaniment, not just wild and crazy rock synth solos (not that those aren't cool). Looks like a $699 street price? If it does what it purports to, it's the unit we've been wanting since the 80s.
-
At least in the demo this would be great for someone playing modern Pop songs. But I'd like to hear a demo of more traditional uses like Piano,Organ,Strings, etc.
-
If I get this right, then its a parametric synth, not a midi-soundbox with a Bösendorfer patch. Synths can usually produce something that sounds like strings, or trumpet, even organ, but most likely the strengths are somewhere else. Caveat - I havent even seen one in real, so of course this is all only assumed, from playing around with parametric keyboard synths.
-
Apparently, not really doable since there does not seem to be any string distinction, unlike GK pickups.

Too bad, but i understand it's just mission impossible with just a phone jack. Or ... ?
It used to be so much fun on the VG99 to have bass on 6,5 strings, and guitar on 4,3,2,1 strings.
A bit like (the fantastic) Charlie Hunter.
Demo doesn't say much, and it's always a bit painful to watch a (seemingly very decent) guitarist discover synthesis.
Ouch ! Talk about tacky patches, lol. (imo)
Oh! Welcome back Mr RP ! Nice to read from you !

Go, go, Boss / Roland !
ps: the tracking and response are just incredible! ... Wow, Boss does a big home run for sure ...Last edited by xuoham; 04-19-2015 at 12:23 PM.

i don't care about string determination. It's rhythm and pitch that I care about . I wish it had usb midi though. Sigh...Roland...
Also, I'll wait to play one before proclaiming the tracking is incredible. I suspect the midi out tracking is still abysmal like the current products.
-
Yes, you are right on this, the tracking of the synth SEEMS great but since it is the tracking of the analog synth inside, it does not mean anything regarding midi out.

Well, I fear it can't be everything to everyone. But I'm glad they chose to make this first product a true synthesizer, not a digital patch generator like all of the tired GR products with their cheesy and tired sounds. Some will bemoan that it is not a dedicated guitar controller for MIDI composition, but perhaps that's the natural future evolution of this new technology they've developed? We'll have to see.
As for piano, etc. - again, it's a synth, not a sample playback machine. Piano never sounds good played on guitar anyway IMHO. I am sure the oscillators on board will allow for some cool sounds suitable for comping, though, likely in the electric piano family.

I would be surprised if it has midi out in the sense of detecting the note pitch and transforming it. Seems like the midi functions are limited to patch switches and parameter settings. Otherwise they would have told the world in big letters that this box is a do it all (beyond being a synth that works with analog signals).

The Sonuus poducts (sonuus - Music Products Designed in the UK) will do MIDI out, and write to your DAW, but only monophonically.
