I just changed strings last night. I think it had been between nine months and a year since the last change. (D'Addario Chrome .11s.) I don't like the feel of brand new strings but it's less of a bother with these strings than it would be with round wounds. The strings still tuned fine, by the way. But they were very-well-worn and that becomes a drag after awhile...

    From Mark Rhodes:

I don't like the feel of brand new strings
Interesting that you don't like the "feel" ... most people comment on the sound instead. Excellent point!

New strings always feel a little "sticky" to me...I make sure to grab a little nose grease and work it up and down the strings.

i am not a sweaty man

    i am not

but my fingers are sweaty fingers (not my hands mind)

    its just unbelievable

i clean them before gigs - in breaks between sets - i try to remember to wipe my strings down a lot

but the strings - especially the b and e strings - just rust-up on me very quickly.

we play too many bright tempo tunes and i'm not quite as chilled out as i should be

    damn alto players

Try to use PURE NICKEL type of strings, they doesn`t rust that fast, but, however, you have to wipe any type of strings every time after playing. I am using DR Pure Nickel 10-46 on Washburn Idol WI 64 and DR Pure Nickel 9-42 on my Fender Strat Deluxe. And they last almost "forever", and also give me more mellow tone, specialy on the Strat, which can be too bright with some regular steel strings.
