It never seems to fail. Trash a guitar, trash a company, trash a CEO. If these latest variants from Guild were made in Japan . . the trashing from this same perpetrator would immediately turn to worship at the alter. I wonder how many different people need to tell tell a person that they find this kind of trashing to be repugnant . . before they get the message and stop doing it.

hurrah ! thats more like it ....

There's a saying, archtop. It's better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you are an idiot than to open it and remove all doubt. All doubt has officially been removed. But keep trash talking Guild if it makes you happy. oh, and can I consult you the next time I am looking to buy a guitar? Your professional opinion on all guitars you have never played is of great value to me.

And just how many Guilds do I own? While you're at it tell me specifically which ones besides the X-500 you disapprove of and I will be sure to get rid of them immediately. You're stupidity has no bounds! But as long as you're happy.

So the 1000 doesn't have adjustable pole pieces and the 1100 does? I kind of like using bronze strings when I can. Are they also going to be making an 1100 for a reasonable price?

When emotion is high, opinion often trumps facts. So I sought facts.
I measured the neck thickness of some archtops. The tool is used came from a friend of mine who is a dentist. I measured each neck exactly the same way, behind the 1st and 9th frets. I didn't use a higher fret because some of the necks started to balloon for the heel at the 10th.
Here is the instrument:
Heritage Sweet 16#1 (0.83, 0.93)
Heritage Sweet 16#2 (0.81, 0.94)
Super Eagle (0.81, 0.93)
Heritage Johnny Smith (0.79, 0.91)
Heritage 550 (0.83, 0.94)
Thornton Improv (0.85, 0.94)
Guild AA 2004 (0.83, 0.94)
I'll post the thickness of the American Patriot in the next couple of days.
Don't compare these measurements with those published. I used the same instrument for consistency, but others may measure the maximum thickness differently, certainly with a different tool anyway. The fatness of the neck is largely dependent of the shape, such as C, D, U. So the maximum thickness doesn't tell the whole story. But these measurements are facts at least.
Archtopheaven, I'm fine with a thin neck. You are likely aware that many chord melody players prefer them for fretting the 6th, 5th and even 4th strings. I also play two solid bodies with late 50s LP necks. Those work for me, too.
The archtop with the thinnest neck I've ever owned was used in the studio and for gigging by Larry Coryell. It was a Heritage H576. It worked for him.

Don't really give two shits how many Guilds you own. Or, how many perfect Japanese guitars you own. Your constant trashing of guitars, companies and people, not meeting up with your own personal standards, is getting pretty boring . . . . . for more people than just myself. Do you not see that? Are you just that obtuse?? You're just wearing yourself out. Give it a break already.

Patrick,
I wouldn't worry about it. Everyone out here has the right to their own opinions and to post in any way that makes them happy. After the first few replies it was clear to me that it wasn't an issue to be taken seriously, so I was just having fun. I apologize to all if it got a bit tiresome.

How is that Aristocrat? It looks much better to me than a Les Paul.

Having owned Guild guitars in the early 60s and played them exclusively for over 20 years I would pay $7999 for one without a second thought if that is what I wanted, IMO the value of a guitar is a personal thing it depends on several factors one being how badly you want it and whether you can afford it. Over the years I have regretted getting rid of my Guilds many times.

Good question and yes the 1100 was also reproduced for use with the AP AA which was only built in small numbers. The 1000 was reproduced for the NS A-150 which was "mass produced." Both reproductions have popped up on eBay as new in the bag parts from Guild(Fender) dealers and repair centers, (e.g. ebay seller theblackrider.) Neither the 1000 nor the 1100 reproductions was very expensive to begin with. I recall around $109 for the 1100 and less than $100 for the 1000. Prices quickly rose and especially so for the 1100. There are older posts around here that chronicle its appearance on the market pricing. it's also been discussed on the Let's Talk Guild forum.

The HB1 initially was only on the GSR X150D (another limited run instrument) and caused quite a stir as the appearance of the venerated (by some) HB1 was unheralded. It's now available on the newly revised NS S100. I don't think the 1100 has been offered on any other guitar beside the AP AA since it was reproduced. It's hard to imagine all that went into the research, testing, and tooling up for the 1100 and I have no idea how much is shares under the hood with the 1000 but it can't have been cheap to produce a low number
The parts mix offered on the new Guild Online Parts Store (e.g. acoustic guitar bridges, pickguards, tuners, bridge pins etc) suggests it's more of a clearing house for excess parts that have gone unordered from official channels. The 1000 is something of an outlier. It will be of interest to see what other replacement parts become available through that official channel. There is certainly interest amongst the Guild electric/archtop community in other items such as pickups, pickup support rings, harp tailpieces, "Guildsby vibratos", control knobs, etc. The black topped Franz that comes with newly announced NS T50 is a personal attention getter.

I haven't received this one yet. It was one I was following on eBay to see if it sold, and for how much. One morning I logged on to eBay find the price had been reduced by $1700. Before I could think I had dropped a deposit.

Lol Patrick dont try and bully me, talk for yourself not others. I dont read 90% of what you write, I learn to ignore and let be and considering your posts are about a page long anyway, thats a lot of stuff I have to skim over.

In regards to @Snoskier
You can throw around all the personal insults you like at me for not liking the new X500. In the end though I'm talking about guitars, your making personal attacks. See the difference?
People come here because they want information. The difference is, when you hear things you don't like you start attacking the person. Thats not a good look for this forum now is it?
The irony is, if I was singing the praises of the X500, I doubt you would have cared one jot, whether I had played it or not. You only care so much now because I don't like t.
I told you I've played the guitar and didn't like it. You then said "No you've not played it because if you had, you would have liked it"
I think the record speaks for itself here.Last edited by Archie; 02-10-2015 at 10:47 AM.

Archtop . . . I'm not trying to bully you at all. I've no desire to do so. I'm merely pointing out hown much like an ass-hole you sound everytime you post such trash talk against guitars, guitar companies and corporate leaders. I will continue to do so. Further, I'm not trying to organize people in an attack against you. You're doing a fine job of that yourself. "When people are constantly telling someone their breath smells like horse-shit . . sooner or later they need to realize that they should brush their teeth." (That's not mine . . although it's really cool and I wish it was)
IMO, everytime you post such stupidity . . . you discredit the genuine substance and knowledge that you so often show in other posts.
You've got very high standards when selecting guitars and guitar manufacturers . . . we get that. We can see that in the guitars you own and those you've owned. You feel very disappointed by some less than perfect guitars you've owned as well as some of those you see in the market place . . . we get that too. But, it just gets very tiresome to keep hearing your trash talking.
As for the length of my posts . . . what can I say? I'm pretty much a frustrated Mickey Spillane;

Here's a helpful rule. Don't insult someone's mother, wife, or guitar.
A person can provide criticism without being insulting by adding the essential ingredient of tactfulness.
A sophistocated, genial person can even have an edge, make a point, and remain elegant and likeable. Here's an example.
Whatever you think about President Carter, it was his mother, Miss Lillian, that I really liked. She had a disarming southern charm, and an incisive wit.
One time a reporter was pushing Miss Lillian on her son’s reputation for honesty. With a measure of challenge the reporter asked, “Miss Lillian, do you mean that he (Jimmy) never told a lie?”
"Well, I reckon he might have told a little white lie now and then," she replied.
The reporter pounced: "Do you mean that white lies are okay? Just what do you mean by a white lie?"
"Well," drawled Miss Lillian, "Do you remember when you came in this morning and I told you how glad I was to see you...?"

But why do you insist on filling up threads with this nonsense. Im allowed to comment on guitars, companies etc, thats what this section is for, peoples opinions.

The problem you have is that you only focus on the negative things I say but pay no mind to the positive things. You also pay little mind to the perorations of them etc.. Theres over 20 threads on this first page and again, I'm only in about 4 of them. I don't go anywhere else on the site (accept the sales section), so that means my imprint here is actually very small, yet you make it seem like its SOOOO big.
You then draw way too much attention to my posts by constantly doing this. So people come along and go Oh AH and Patrick are arguing again, those two are trouble.
Essentially what your saying is, I'm not allowed here because I dont share your opinion. This is not your house, these are not your rules. The rules are 'keep it about guitars' the only person who keeps breaking that is YOU!
Oh look par tick theres an entire thread dedicated to how shocking Gibson QC is and its on the front page and guess what, I haven't posted in it once and have no intention of doing so.
Stop trying to make me in to some sort of super villain, just because you dont agree with me. Thats bullying and you are the biggest offender of it.
Now lets get back to how Guild might do better this time, under the new company. I'm sure what people are really sick of, is THIS!

Hmmm . . . . is that your pecking order? You actually put your wife and mother in front of your guitars? Have you no shame?

Further, I do share your opinion on *some* of the quality realted issues you point out. I agree that you're allowed to comment on guitars here. I disagree that you are allowed to constantly be so insulting in such broad generalizations as you constantly do. It implies the connotation that those of us who own any of these guitars you constantly trash are idiots for buying them . . . and that we are idiots for ever buying any guitars that are not made in Japan. And further to that . . stop saying that I don't agree with you. That's just not true. What is true, is that I take issue with your constant trash talk. Also, stop trying to make this unique to me. It's not. I'm just in your face about it more than any others are.
