I am a long-time Pearce user. Bought my first one right at the factory back in the 80s. Have owned many, right now I have have 2 G2r's. I owned one of the G1.7r's (G1 modded to to G2 power/gain specs) and that was a FABULOUS amp.
-
I've got a g2r since a little less than a year. Very happy with it.
-
Reviving this old thread. Any Pearce owners care to comment on the amount of "hiss" or background noise on their particular units? I have a G2R with a slight hiss that is just loud enough to be slightly distracting at bedroom levels. I don't notice it while playing or care all that much, just curious if this is within the normal range for these amps.
Also, since Suncoast stopped servicing Pearce amps and selling parts, I don't have a lead on where to buy replacements for the notorious ribbon cables. A tech in town suggested just hardwiring the connections that rely on ribbon cables. Any thoughts on this?
-
Whoa, I didn't know they stopped, I wonder why? That sucks. Perhaps it's because they are pushing their own line of preamps that are direct rip-offs of Pearce's.

That was my thought. Until recently they had ribbon cables for sale on ebay. I contacted them and they replied saying they were no longer selling them. I don't think the built-in effects sound that great, and generally don't use reverb, but for resale purposes it would be nice to have a fully functioning unit.

Great amp !
A would like to build a cabinet like yours
i have the G1 head and i would like to turn it to Combo.
Any schematic?
-
That G3 is awesome, the Pearce Holy Grail. I had the same oak cab but for the G1. Later I swapped in a G2 head. If you are patient, they pop up used once in a while. But they are heavy (especially with the EV), I put heavy-duty pop-in casters on mine. Dan also offered those cabs in other woods, like mahogany. Damn I wish I had bought one of those instead of the oak.
-
I think I have original copy schem's for G1 or G2, not sure which. Take a look at this web site if you haven't already. They might be there for downloading.

Do you thinks it's going to be too heavy ? I have the G1 head and i am going to buy EV speaker
What do you think it's more practical for gigs etc, a combo or just a sinlge cabinet and my G1 head in a Rack
-
Found this inside the manual, between a couple pages. Says it was made for a country guitarist, and is #2 of 40 made.
-
Does the G3 have the same issues with ribbon cable connectors as the g2? Does it use the same Alesis effects?
-
I have no issues, it sounds amazing. Clear and crisp. This thing has to be best amp i have owned. Its sounds so good once i start playing its hours before i know it
-
I like my g2r quite a bit. The only "issue" I've had is intermittent outages with the digital effects. They are 80s/90s digital effects and easily outclassed by modern pedal in the effects loop(s).
-
Ribbon cables for interconnecting PCB's and parts is one of the worst ideas in guitar amp design (right behind poorly designed PCB's and PCB mounted jacks and pots) ever.

-
No, no power or tone issues. It's just that sometimes the effects are not present. It seems to happen if the head vibrates too much. The basic functions of amplifying the signal work great. I actually just sold it with full disclosure on the effects issue. They are 20+ year old digital effects, and the amp has three effects loops, so it's not really a major issue in my opinion.

Hello, I am new to this thread. I have a Pearce g1 and need a schematic for a footswitch. If anyone knows of one please let me know.
-
Do you really need the schematic, or would you buy another footswitch?

Ressurecting an old thread, because there are actually TWO G3's on Reverb right now. The oak one is beautiful.

There is a Pearce G1 for sale right now at Good Will: Pearce Guitar Amplifier | ShopGoodwill.com
8 days to go in the auction as of today. Good Will's testing of amplifiers is usually limited to powering them on. This one is apparently missing the power plug so they didn't do that, plus you can see that the plug input is broken.
You gotta wonder what's in that envelope....

FYI, there's a Pearce G1 amplifier in good condition on Good Will now, pick up only in Las Vegas, NV. Current bid is $56 with one day left in the auction (pickup only item auction prices usually stay low). It has a beautiful wooden cabinet.
