Very nice.
Inspired by all this I am putting a MIM thinline body on my MIA Tele to lighten the load a little and sneak a bit of wood into the sound.
Glad to hear that your Tribute worked out.

Has anyone tried the G&L line of Telecaster Style guitars? The Tribute series has a neat line up of these, some with Humbuckers and even semi-hollow body design. I have never played on through a decent amp and wondered about the tones that might be there.

G&L USA are built like custom shop fenders ; Leo Fender started company. Beautiful instruments IMHO. Tribute line are made in Korea, hardware (pups) USA . I have a bluesboy, killer axe: seth lover humbucker in neck, you can dial up a really nice jazz tone.

The G&L Bluesboy is my favorite Tele type.

I have an old ASAT Classic prototype that was finished a few weeks after Leo's death. Great guitar, really solid player and tone.
G&L's are great guitars for the $$

Thanks. I'll have to sit down with one. They look great. I believe that there is even a model with a carved top. I appreciate your input.

Is the neck position Seth Lover the stock pickup or aftermarket?

The tribute G&L series are some of the best value guitars you can buy.

I brought this "Orange Boy" home a couple weeks ago. I do some business with Front Porch Music in Bakersfield, and they are a dealer. If you are ever in the area, stop in and be awed by the incredible collection of Mosrites, Hallmark "Batwings" and a host of other oddball Bakersfield built guitars hanging on the walls. There is a 50's Epiphone Devon in the "acoustic" room that I would like to rescue someday.
I was chatting with the owner Artie about the Tribute Bluesboys. They are made in Indonesia. I expressed a bit of skepticism about that. He said he would order both the solid body in blue and the semi in orange and I could choose my favorite either way. He called a couple weeks later and I took my MIM Tele down for a shootout.
The G&L simply blew the MIM Tele into the weeds. Everything-fretwork, quality of build, tone-amazing. He also had a American Tele on hand for comparison, and the G&L didn't give anything away to it either.
For my needs, I preferred the semi, just a bit more warm sounding to my ears.
I would highly recommend the line. It's a great value!

I first got interested in the Fender Tele for Jazz when I ran into Marc-André Séguin online. He is an on-line jazz educator and I took 4 of his lessons. His influence is Ed Bickert and Ed played an old beaten up Tele which somehow had a clean and smooth tone with a transparency and soft shimmer that you can get from an old Fender.
Marc-André plays an ASAT with a Humbucker in the neck position and seems to love it, often leaving his ES 175 at home. So I got hooked on the concept of getting a G&L especially priced like this.
The other experience with G&L I had was in a suburb of Cleveland called Hudson. Little music store had a 1993 USA Legacy that played like a dream and sounded rick and sweet. I should have bought it on the spot.
I just need to find a G&L dealer authorized to carry something like a fender Delux Reverb so that I can get a reading on tonal scope of the ASAT BluesBoy and other models. Fascinating!

I have a USA Bluesboy Semi-hollow that I bought for $650 used on the internet a few months ago. Quickly became one of my favorites. The Seth Lover is stock and the build is immaculate. Mine is well under 7 lbs., although a lot of the semis can be on the heavy side; I think they cut sound chambers into the wood that is too heavy for a solid body. Highly recommended.

I bought an Asat deluxe carved top Tribute made in Indonesia blem model for about 200 bucks. I love their tele bridge design and want it on my future teles as other than foo-foo tele expensive bridges it solves a lot of common headaches with traditional designs. Guitar is nice and balanced, plays very well with really good fretwork and the neck isn't Ibanez wizard size but it's easy to get around. I replaced the stock with Dimarzio 36ths. I've sold a lot of guitars many costing 4x or more than this guitar. Other than something custom made for me I won't find anything that suits me as well. It has a nice belly cut and it's somewhere in the area of 7 pounds.

I'm saving for one as we speak!!! I played one in my local shop and was completely blown away by it. Very wide range of usable tones for jazz, blues, funk and chicken pickin. I am having the most severe GAS for this axe that I've had in ten years. One more month and I'll have the bread.

i've always felt they were bright and brittle sounding, possibly due to the thick plastic finishes

The Fender 52 Hot Rod Tele is a warmer guitar and is better for jazz. While the Fender has a maple neck and a mini humbucker, it has a very thin nitro finish and brass saddles. With flatwounds, the Fender is an excellent jazz guitar. The G&L is best suited as a blues guitar.

One of the motivating factors in my "orangeboy" purchase was a studio project I was contracted for. It's a girl singer that does originals in a mostly blues format. So far the tracks sound good everyone is happy. I also had a studio date on a country date, it's a Bakersfield retro sounding deal and the G&L delivered plenty of Bako twang for that project.

I've owned a few USA ASAT Bluesboys. The semi-hollow model was very nice, lightweight, and beautifully finished. It was a great alternative to slinging a full sized semi-hollow 335/535 style git, but a bit neck heavy.
My current favorite and most versatile Blues Boy is a Korina solid body, with a Duncan Phat Cat in the neck. The stock Seth was simply too dark for that instrument. Now I get all of the fat jazz tones, but with added P90 sparkle in the neck. The middle position (blending the Phat Cat and G&L single coil MFD bridge 'pup) is simply the best 'in-between' tone I've ever gotten. This instrument has become my favorite gig-ready tool.

I've owned a few US made G&L's and they've all been, without exception, great guitars. But I've sold/traded them all.
Call me shallow (shallow!) but if don't say "Fender" on the headstock, I don't want it

picked up a new G&L blues boy semi hollow made in Indonesia for $1100 new zealand dollars, it has the clear finish and maple neck lovely figure in the swamp ash not straight grained
really well made for the girl the other day happy as at the moment
was a toss up between a thin line squire or a second hand mim thin line for about the same money really happy we went for the G&L
got a free $150 nz dollar hard case with it so that made it about the same price as the fender squire thin line ,
i have been searching for a semi hollow tele for ages preferably a mim thin line here but could not find one and she did not want anything with squire on it , the g&l had been sitting in the areas best guitar shop for about the last 3 months , it was a wonder it was not sold before hand , but everyone buys fenders here
last Monday i bit the bullet figured out it was probity the best deal , so with out telling the all power nor the girl i rang the shop and asked if it was still there it was i asked if they would do a deal , they offed the hard case i pondered and said ok yes went over pulled the cc card out and picked it up that afternoon with not regrets , hid it in the car then got it inside when the all power was not looking and had 4 beers , in the end i slid it a little pass the door so the girl could see the case and of she went for a look but shortly after the all power figured some thing was up , but surprise and behold it was ok so i had a coffee and all was good
now just have to pay for it
all theses things help when you are on the pension
cc cards should be freed of all debit as soon as you use them
yes im crowd fundingLast edited by helena; 10-03-2019 at 04:51 AM.
