Anybody have a recommendation for such a pedal for playing with a clean guitar sound?

I'm not going Jimi/Robin Trower with it, but using it to add some subtle breath or "floating on the wind" feel to the sound.

So far, without getting too expensive, I like the BBE Soul Vibe the best:

I'm not interested in the ability of some pedals to simulate slowing down and speeding up -- the Neo Ventilator pedals can do that, but they're out of my price range anyway. I'm just going to stomp on it and leave it on. Let's say under $150.

And do you think I could replicate the sound with tremolo + phaser?

I forgot the name of it but Charlie Hunter used a rotary pedal by Korg.

    Ah the G4 Leslie simulator

This looks pretty good too: MXR M68 Univibe

The Earthquaker Devices Depths is a cool vibe. Also the Mojo Hand Villanova. Both can be found on the used market around $150.

I recently got a Strymon Lex Leslie Sim and it is awesome but pricey.

The Soul Vibe and MXR are good for vibes. If you want LESLIE/Rotary, that's a bit different... and I have owned alot....

For the "slow leslie" sound, which it sounds like what you're after- more of a chorusy thing, in the rotary pedals, alot of them do it well: my personal favorite is the H&K Rotosphere, altho the DLS RotoSIM, LEX, Boss RT-20, Option5 Destination Rotation, and others (check out the Paredolia; that's it's own bag, baby!).... all sound good. Depends on how "serious" you are with it being an AUTHENTIC leslie tone. The only real contenders for anything approaching "authentic" are the H&K, LEX, and Ventilator/Mini-Vent. All the others are just glorified choruses.

FYI, the original Uni-Vibe was TRYING to be a leslie simulator in a pedal. It doesn't sound like a leslie, but it sounds like it's own thing, and that's cool too.

Very expensive (399.99) but I heard this pedal nailed it:

+1 to the H&K Rotosphere... Allows for controllable tube saturation.

Oops I see you wanted to keep it under $150. So I would suggest the Jim Dunlop Rotovibe. Awesome pedal and you can control with the foot pedal like a wah. You can find them on ebay for under $150.

You might want to check out the Tech21 Roto Choir too, should be around your budget.

Actually- YES- forgot about this one. A used Roto-Choir would definitely give you the best bang-for-buck in that price range.

It's not the same exact thing but I like the tones I can get with:
    DenElectro DJ5 Tuna Melt Tremolo - $40
    DeltaLab SC1 Stereo Chorus - $40

two very cheap, err, inexpensive pedals that sound nice and are musical

The Fender SCXD has a Leslie effect as one of the effect options. To me it doesn't sound exactly like a Leslie, but it is a kinda cool effect that varies your sound from the usual reverb or tremolo. If you dial back on the tone and fingerpick chords synchronously it sounds quite a bit like an organ, which is nice for comping.

However, what you probably need is this:

Spinning Double Horn Speaker | Specimen Products

I saw Andrew Bird use this. It is pretty awesome. In fact his amp setup might be the best small venue setup I have ever heard.

$28,000! It does look steampunk, though.

Check out the Specimen guitars on the website. Some really interesting designs, especially the Freeman Royale.

a univibe and leslie simulator are totally different things. The best univibe pedal I have played is the vibe baby but it's big and heavy and 18v and doesn't have true bypass switching. I also tried and liked the vibe machine pedal but it's not nearly as authentic sounding for hendrix stuff. Neither is particularly good for leslie simulation. That's a whole other ball game.

Having owned a few of either (Vibe/Leslie) Jack's right. Two different things. My favorite vibe pedal is the FoxRox Aqua Vibe and my favorite rotary pedal simulator is the Neo Ventilator followed by the H&K. They are however, as far as pedals go not inexpensive.

I just thought I'd post this for the sake of completism.

I've seen the Pro-3x on sweetwater for $799.

that's pretty expensive. FYI, the kemper does a great leslie speaker simulation.

That thing is a beast. I get it - an actual spinning horn. But dang - that thing is a beast.

Much as I love hearing others mess with univibes, it never much works for me personally. Leslie is different. Had the rotovibe, tried some others. Traded into a Neo Ventilator last year and that's where the search stops. Not cheap, but it has the sound. A real joy to play this one!
