I've been a Fender guy for a long time and love the Fender clean tones for my my archtops. I've been looking for a tube combo in the 22 -35 watt range. Several people have mentioned the Rivera Jazz Suprema. The 1-15" is 50watts and is a bit more than I want to spend (about $1900) and I think a touch heavy too (50+ Ilbs?) Now, I see they've come out with a lower wattage JS. 1-10" and 25w. Anyone play through it yet? My concern is that a 10" speaker might not be big enough for some rooms. Most places are asking $1399. Still a bit pricey. - Fender Deluxe reish is about $1100, though. And not hand-wired. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Of all the amps I've had two of my favorites I wish I still owned are ones with 10" a DF Princeton Reverb, and SF Super Reverb. 10" speakers cut thru the mix so usual not a problem being heard, and they are very responsive and punchy sounding. Also amps with 10" its easier to hear yourself vs say a 15". The bigger the speaker the further away from the source the sound comes together. Plus bigger speaker need more power to push all that paper around and notes develop slower. Like in my bass playing days if I was using amp with 15" I had to play more on top of the beat to compensate for the slower speaker response. Look at most bass players today they are using 10's or 10's combined with a big speaker.
I would not worry about using a 10". Checkout a Princeton Reverb I tiny bit cheaper than a Deluxe Reverb and smaller. A Princeton is basically a single channel 1x10 version of a Deluxe.

I can only speak on Rivera amps in general. They are pretty great for guitarist who stick to clean tones, and flexible amps.
I personally own a rivera venus 3, I personally love it to death. It's my blackface and tweed amp of choice since it does both. If I didn't already own this amp I would probably check it out especially considering the weight. However...I love my venus 3 and see no reason to sell it. It is easily the best amp I have ever owned.
Also something to note, EL-84 are more of a british amp thing rather than the 6V6 of blackface amps. Though my peavey delta blues 210 uses them too. Make no mistake EL-84s also have a great clean tone.
With that noting I think while Rivera is famous for more of a fender type sound...I don't think they are limited to it. Again, they are great amps all around. The clean tones are very good on them, and I would definitely recommend getting one no matter the model if you are more inclined towards tube amps. The tone from rivera amps is pretty exceptional, especially if you are into clean tones.
Also this is just a personal opinion, the riveras are much better than most current fender amps, both in terms of tone, but also sound quality and reliability.
Also...the smaller rivera's, including mine, are plenty loud, and if a room is large enough the sound person should be putting a mic to the amp anyway. Many musicians are switching to smaller amps precisely because of this practice. Especially with the fact many smaller tube amps have plenty of clean headroom.Last edited by Ghostlady; 08-10-2014 at 02:41 AM.

I own the suprema 15", it's 40 pounds. This is not to heavy considering the return. Did a retube, winged c's and mullard 12ax7's. The l5c and 175 couldn't be happier.

I use a Rivera Clubster 10" 25 watts. Its plenty loud for any inside gig Ive played. Its got a super clean tone and can get a nice growl with P90s. I did replace the stock speaker with a Weber ALNICO and it sounds better to my ear. Its not a back breaker either. Bob

Also consider the Carvin Nomad. 50w, 40lbs, and its cleans compare very favorably to Fenders. It also has a second channel if you ever have the need for a little grit. Its price is $550 USD.

I'm waiting to hear about these too. 25w through a 10" sounds just right IMO. Front panel controls look interesting, but no reviews out there . . . Sweetwater etc pretty short on details . . . so I guess it's still just wait n see-- hard for me to get excited about dropping $1395 on a mystery amp

I tried out a 25 W/10" Suprema yesterday - very nice amp. I'm considering purchasing one, but since I already have an AI Clarus/Redstone set up and a Henriksen 110, I have to think about it a bit; could be that owning all 3 would be excessive... I liked the amp a lot, though; hard to imagine anyone being disappointed purchasing one.

Not trying to necro thread but was curious if anyone had any more insights? Looking at the Jazz Suprema as well as the Clubster 25/45. To me it seems the Jazz Suprema line is a single channel Clubster. I could be wrong. Considering its hand wired and extremely well made its not much of an "up charge" from the DRRI that its competing with. Frankly the Rivera amps seem like more amp dollar for dollar than the reissue fender stuff. Better eq control, hand wired, decent speakers, and a classy cabinet.
Thanks for your time and information.

Many great amp recommendations in this thread. I'd like to toss in another, albeit a rare Fender model for your consideration.
Look for an '80's Fender Princeton Reverb II (Rivera-era). They are great for jazz, blues and more. Plus they are hand wired, point to point amps, comparable to some of the more expensive boutique amps. They come up every so often on Ebay and Reverb.
Here's the specs: Fender Princeton Reverb II | Ampwares

I have a Rivera JS 25. Bought new and hardly use. I like it very much, but I don't gig so still not sure why I bought it. Has a lot of tone-shaping tools and sounds great. I play in a small room so I am always using headphones with my Evans head.

I thoroughly recommend Rivera amps. I use a chubster 55 as my main gigging amplifier. It's loud enough to keep up with any kind of gig - from big band to small club venues - and versatile enough for any genre of music I've thrown at it (jazz to heavy rock).
It's a bit bigger and heavier but after swapping out the speaker for an Eminence lil texas it's plenty manageable, I don't drive so I just pull it around on a hand cart and it's great.

The Jazz Suprema and the Clubster have similar specs---almost the same amp. I had the Clubster for a long while and although I really liked it, I much prefer my DRRI and PRRI, both of which have had tube and speaker upgrades. Awesome amps!

I recently bought the Rivera Venus 3. Stunningly Spectacular great sounding amp IMO.
I don't need more power -- 15 watts is plenty for me.
I absolutely love the flexibility of the tone controls.
It sounds so good with so many good sounding settings possible.
I used to have a PRRI, but the Venus 3 does sound better for me.
On the downside, the reverb and tremolo are not same as the PRRI, but still I much prefer the Venus.
The only real bad thing . . . it is a bit heavier than I would prefer!

Nowhere to try the 1x10 Rivera Jazz Suprema, doesn't discount them and he never ever sells them so why the heck did he ever make it in the first place. It's probably a great amp but know one knows for sure.

Would the tonal differences between a Rivera Jazz Suprema 12 and Henriksen 112ER be significant or obviously noticeable? I have a Henriksen 112ER plus a Roland Blues Cube Hot 30 that does a good job of replicating a tube amp sound. I recently got a better guitar (1970 Gibson L5C converted to an electric with 2 humbuckers) and I am interested to know if there is something else available under about $1200 that has a different or better sound. I've looked at the Quilter MicroPro 12 online and am also considering a second Henriksen, a 310 (different tone with different size speaker). I use the amp at low volume at home playing jazz with no effects so it doesn't need a lot of power or have to be light as long as it is clean. Any experience in comparing the Rivera and Henriksen or recommendations are appreciated. I prefer to buy something new as used amps can be a gamble.

First, Rivera amps are very fine pieces of equipment. The Suprema 25 sounds great, to me. Listen to Tim May:
Rivera Jazz Suprema 25 - 25-watt 1x10" Tube Combo | Sweetwater
I could play this amp all day. It should be no problem as a gigging amp, at least in the situations I run into.
-
Thanks, I also like the tone on this clip. It seems to have a richness to it, maybe more depth than the Henriksen; it's hard to tell from a video.

Hey zephyregent,
I don't have the Jazz Suprema and the Henriksen 112ER, but I do have the Rivera Venus 3 and the Henriksen 110ER. I'm guessing there's a lot in common in the comparison. Both great amps IMO, but apples vs oranges.
The Henriksen is compact, sturdy and reliable. It has a great jazz tone -- one good tone is basically it's thing. It's very clean and dark sounding. I use it for louder gigs, but I don't use it much for home practice. I've been experimenting with running a drive pedal in front of it recently with good results too.
The Rivera Venus is a tone monster. It is my favorite at home amp -- it gets played all the time. The EQ section is very flexible and allows for many good tone approaches. The overdrive on the amp is great too -- perfect for a bit of fuzz in a clean tone. Also capable of higher gain sounds if that's of interest. I couldn't be more impressed by this amp. I would take it out on gigs, too, but it is bigger and heavier than I prefer. But whenever I play through another amp, it's the richness of the Rivera that I want to hear. The Venus is a 1x12. The Jazz Suprema is clearly aimed a clean sounds, but the Venus does them really well too.
You might consider looking at the used listings of Guitar Center. I believe the used Venus is available for $800. I bet you would love it for home use -- I sure do.

For those interested. I contacted Rivera.com about the 25 watt 10" Jazz Suprema. It was discontinued but in about two months it is coming back with a few changes to it. A direct out with amp simulation was mentioned.
Don't have any other info at this time.

Bump.
Anyone else had any experience with Jazz Supreme 25? Not the new version, but the previous.

So, I have the 55. I love it! I'm no pro. But, if you want a quick listen to the bigger one, here is a vid I made.
