The guitar arrived this morning. After coming up to temp for several hours I removed the instrument from its "case." Nice big crack running the length of the neck on the bass side, and one splitting the rosette under the neck.

As much as I wanted one of these guitars, I think I'm done looking for a while.

I hate to say this, but I had 2 Gitane D500's. Cracks in both. One was returned to MF after opening the pkg. and it was fine, then a crack developed right away on the top. I returned it and received a MUCH better one. Kept it for quite a few years.

That one just recently developed a crack too, maybe induced by some kind of impact. But, I have to assume that a thinner top, while responsive, just is vulnerable. Funny, I don't see that many classical guitars with cracks. I could be wrong about that.

I'm no expert but would seem like a climate issue? The DG-250M I had was tough as nails. I never had a case for it only a gig bag and it went on planes (sometimes gate checked-horror of horrors!), trunk of cars, it was banged around pretty good. No cracks, a few dings. I am sorry to hear that this experience has caused you to give up on looking for a JJG-they are very fun and addictive!
There is a posting on the Baltimore CL for Paris Swing D and oval holes for 600. Never played one but they get pretty good reviews. I have no association, but if that is close you could drive over and check out.

I think for the time being, I had one guitar sold to someone else after I had paid for it, and one that arrived with two cracks. I think the universe is telling me to give it a rest for a bit.

I saw the ads for the two Paris Swing guitars, but at this point I'm just going to take a breather from the whole situation.

We have 3 Gitanes - a Jorgenson (DG300), a Lulo (DG310) and a D500. They've all been very stable road warriors.

Earlier this week I took one more shot on the used GC section and scored big. Gorgeous DG 250 with a HSC. Great condition. After some new strings, this thing is a cannon. I'll post a picture tonight.
