the aa763 or ab763 is considered the gold standard. If you could replicate that preamp in a jfet design it would be a boon to jazz guitarists who play through ill conceived pro audio style preamps with tone controls badly misplaced.

Yes, the guitar is amplified in a unique way, I believe most of the sound that's being heard is from the high frequency pickup, which has characteristic frequencies and a peak resonance value, the criteria for designing a HI Fi type preamp and tone control is very different.
