I like the Pass clip, sounds more like Herb Ellis tone to me than typical Joe, but you are right, it's that cool, mid rangey 60's sound… like listening to jazz on an old table top radio, or in the car.

I liked Joe's tone the best from "The Best of Joe Pass" but I don't know what the original recordings were culled from. Definitely not the 175-through-a-Polytone tone, though.

My friend Michael at Island Sound thought I should try it again with some coaching from him, so maybe I will give it another shot. In the meantime, I found that a Boss EQ pedal in the loop of a ZT Club made an amp that I didn't care for into a really workable, light grab and go amp. I would take a tube amp on a serious gig, but I could get much better tones out of that setup than I could with the AI.

But, I would like to try the AI again someday. I do remember that the built in effects were pretty crappy, though. And, the output was a Speakon jack, so I couldn't try the head through a standard cab (I don't use Speakons anywhere, so that was a minus, in spite of their supposed advantage.)
Thats interesting about the EQ in the ZT Club
what kinda settings worked with that Amp ?

Haven't used it in a while, but it was a typical "smiley face" pattern set in the middle, with about the same amount of boost at the ends and subtraction in the middle. Very easy to find, if you mess around a bit.

I'm going to do the Analogman Mod on my Boss to make it quieter, be interesting to see how it changes things.

I do believe the Mambo 8 Wedge to be the winner in the light/loud world. 200W RMS (all into its speaker, unlike Quilter) and 14.5 lbs., so this beats the Genz/Benz named at the start of this thread on specs anyway.

With my Mambo 8, I had my master volume at maybe 1 o'clock last night in big band, and my volume pot wasn't even fully open (I was using my solid-body guitar, which tends to be a bit louder through the amp than my archtop). This was sufficient to be heard among 2 trombones, 3 trumpets, 5 saxophones, electric bass and drums in a large rehearsal room, and to be heard over them for my solo.
