Yea i had an 81 AM50. In production today is the AM93 and AM155 I think. I have the AM93 and like it alot but use it more for a change of pace and backup. Though I have thought about putting p90s on it.

Sorry to derail the thread subject. So back to an Engel... I haven't had the opporuntity to play one. But I do adore the tone Bob DeVos gets with his.

    Anyone checked out Mccurdy guitars?
Abercrombie played one the other day green les paul shape with one sound hole archtop style bridge. I think he has a black 336 style one. I saw Vic Juris play his blonde Mccurdy 336 style, sounded great.

I almost bought one of his guitars. Mass music had a used one. Called rick to the the low-down on it and he was totally disinterested in giving me any information on it so that turned me off and I passed on it. I know they are great instruments because abercrombie and sheryl bailey uses them but whatever.

The Bill Comins Port Master that Vic Juris plays sounds really nice as well, but also pricey $$$

Are the fralin unbuckers just regular humbuckers?

No, they are wound so that the adjustment screw coil is hotter than the other coil. What this does is allows you to get the coil tap sound with a volume that is closer to a real strat pickup . Additionally, the pickup has more of the vibe of an old fashioned, hand wound pickup where the 2 coils are not exactly matched.

I'd be interested to hear how that sounds, Jack. Lately, I've been digging Jesse Van Ruller's earlier tone, much of which I think is from his single coil Elferink. I wondered what it would be like to have a bucker with coil tap available, to emulate that tone. Probably a hotter single coil on the Elferink than one coil on a bucker, but maybe the Unbucker would do the trick.

To me the 339 sounded very similar to a LP.

this doesn't sound like a Les Paul to me. And the unbuckers will only make it better.

Sounds really good and very versatile. I tried one once but unfortunately, it was at a GC and they had it in a special section where there wasn't a single decent amp. I didn't bother looking for another amp because I felt it was too small for me anyways. I think if it had a strap it would've been easier to hold.

not there in what regard? Does it sound like an archtop? No but who cares. Adam Rogers plays a 335.

I recently bought a 339 .. I love it... Then I replaced the ABR Bridge and tailpiece with the Callaham steel bridge and tailpiece... Love it even more! It gave more weight and definition to the sound, a bit more dynamic range.. Still has the stock pickups though, which I dig so far....I wish I could tryout different pickups by just snapping them in and out LOL!

i heard that gibson's using a new snap-in wiring system. I wonder if the 339 has it? I'll have to checkout the callaham stuff. I'm hearing that people are liking titanium bridges now too. When does it end? Depleted uranium bridges?

Jack, I think that he simply meant that it did not sound like a Les Paul there i.e. in your video, is all.

I use KTS tytanium saddles. I am endorser of KTS.
I experiment with my Gibson ABR-1 bridge/top/ with tytanium KTS saddles.
    Better sustain and dynamic.
    Easier to play.
