    Hey guys!

I was thinking about buying a new delay pedal. I previously had an Electro Harmonix Memory Man with Hazarai, which was no doubt a great pedal, but it seemed to lack some certain things and also its build and some technical qualities did not satisfy me.

So to my attention came TC electronics Nova Delay. What is your opinion on this pedal and compared to others.
Also one of my main concerns about buying a new delay is - with my memory man I could twist the buttons and find many different, strange sounds, all kinds of weird noises. I was wondering is that also possible with the nova delay, or is it just a plain good delay and thats it?

For that price range check the El Capistan...

I used one live for about 2 years. Very good pedal. Extremely versatile with modulation included. The dynamic delay helps clean up the repeats. I highly recommend it.

For lots less money I'd suggest a Electro Harmonix Memory Toy.

Is unclear what you are looking for. Do you want the delay to make weird noises or not? Are you looking for as many knobs are possible? If not, I like the simpler TC:

The question is if you need all of this versatility? If not then a simpler small footprint pedal might do as well or better. The El Capistan or the Deep blue delay certainly give great tape echoes. The flashback is versatile, small, not too pricy and also sounds very good.

the nova is a great choice if you want one pedal that can do it all. long, short, clean, modulated, stereo, mono. it seems a little involved at first, but it is pretty easy to figure out and use. the tone knob lets you go from murky to clean and bright repeats and you can add either vibrato or chorus modulation (or none at all). the divisions, reverse and ping pong (stereo) unlocks all the craziness you could want.

if i'm understanding correctly, those funny noises happen on all delay pedals when you mess with the repeats and the time knobs. if you mean modulation like vibrato/chrousing/tape warbles, etc, then that depends on your pedal.

if you're in the us, for $150, you can have my hardly used one its been on my big board since i got it, but i'm downsizing now.

wait, wait-- i just noticed you meant the nova delay, and i was talking about my nova repeater. sorry. anyhow, most of what i said stands, except that the delay is more involved and has lcd screen on it. the nova repeater is a more streamlined version.

Bigdaddy nailed it. Can you describe what you want as far as features and the type of sound you like (clean? modulated? tape-like? echo? etc.) Maybe second only to overdrives, there are many many delay pedals and everyone has a favorite so you have to narrow it down a bit.

Thanks for these replies. I am looking for a delay pedal which has a great tone with a simple delay, but also has a great variety of modulation effects, which can make the sound go totally crazy. Basically I want a delay which can do both - a clean good sounding delay and crazy experimental noises as well.

But as I checked out some videos, I am starting to think about buying this Nova Delay.

I don't use delay much... but this one is in Robben Ford's pedalboard.

If it's good enough for him, I'd assume it'd be good enough for nearly everyone.

I also stumbled on Strymon Timeline ( the el capistan has too few features for me ) , but the timeline ( tough filled with different options ) sounds very cold and digital...

I would suggest spending 30 minutes going through the PGS delay section. They have great demos for each pedal (they also have great service and 15% off today).

The TC is great but i would recommend the Repeater version. It is a simplified version of the Nova Delay. I had the Nova Delay and how the control knobs worked wasn't intuitive. It acted like a rack unit which drive me crazy. Sounds great though. I've owned about 6 delays and i've sold them all because they aren't better than my Ibanez ToneLok DE7. Greatest echo ever (discontinued but cheap on eBay). The Ibanez ES2 Echo Shifter has the potential to fill that void.

I have a Nova delay. It's a good pedal. And sounds wonderful. However, I found it hard to use live. I need to be able to access a slapback and a long delay on the fly. I found this difficult on the Nova. I am now using a Analog Man ARDX20. Which is a dual delay. This pedal has worked very well for me. I can't bring myself to sell the Nova though. Because it sounds so good.

If you do get a Nova. Send me a message. I will send you some cool settings I found online.

    Good luck

I have a few delay pedals. Like previously said, it depends what you're looking for. Do you like analog or digital? Here are the ones I like.

    MXR Carbon Copy
    Malekko Ekko (Personal favorite)
    Mad Prof Deep Blue Delay
    Maxon AD 9999
T-Rex Replica (Tap tempo is a nice feature)
