It seems there are lots of guitars with fairly massive wood tailpieces out there lately. Eastman and others. It seems that most metal replacements I've seen are on the austere side. Does someone make interesting tailpiece replacements?

ha, I'd say DG hooked U up there Spook!

You're too kind
I only had those under my fingers because I keep thinking about replacing the tailpiece on my Gretsch G100CE and I don't want to use a wood piece.

There are quite a few "giant" ebony tailpieces out there lately. I'm not sure why, other than you can get a piece of metal in there for ball end support & grounding. Seems a bit unnecessary. The tailpiece should accentuate the look of the guitar & there is no need for a metal plate in there.

StewMac sells the Benedetto wood tailpiece for $140 + $10 for the attachment cable.

I use Bob Benedetto tailpiece on my jazz box.
It's solid ebony with a metal base.
Very nice!Attachment 6059

I don't believe the Benedetto has a metal base. It is all wood and attaches with a tailcord. Yes? No?

The only downside I experience with it, is it seems to move more with string bending (bending you say - how sacrilegious) than do the metal tailpieces making it more difficult to play those blues pieces - that's my 2 cents worth.

Ebony on metal base.

I think you can find this kind of tailpiece on many Benedetto guitars.Last edited by kris; 02-24-2013 at 12:06 PM.

Then he must have a relatively new design. The one I had, and every one I've seen, was all wood, no metal. And here is the current StewMac listing for his tailpiece. It specifically says "no metal."

I believe this guy is a member here. And even has a Gretsch G100 that he did over. Looks great. Ultimaguitar.com Click on "hinged tailpieces" and scroll to the bottom. It has a photo of his G100.
