Great, Frank! I've got a Tele and a hardtail Strat in the works. The Tele box is "out for delivery" with UPS right now as it turns out!

The Strat - pertinent to this thread - will have a stain finish with Tru-Oil on top of a 4 lb alder body, and a 9.5" radius one piece maple neck. I'm shooting for a rustic look, brushing the chrome and scuffing the plastic parts. Kind of a super-light relic if you will. Pickups are Fralins, 50's wiring, strung with 11's. Yes, I will use this for jazz, and everything else!

For the many people here who gave great comments to my original post.. Do you personally recommend New fender guitars over buying an older vintage guitar. I didnt come up in the era of being exposed to 60's and 70 model strats and Im not sure if buying a older fender would be a better choice? I often wondered why many pros play older strats? Is it that they like these guitars better than the new fenders or is it because its what they grew up with and still love the sound of older versus newere???

I don't favor used gear. The post 2007 Am Std Strats are as good as they come.

My opinion: New Fender guitars are as good as anything they ever made - better than ever in many ways.

If you favor vintage gear and enjoy the collector aspect of it all, that is another matter. But if you want great sound, playability, and durability - then a new Fender guitar is a fine choice.

And do the CNC machines know what country they are in?

Awesome Roger - post some clips and pics when you're done!

Mine will be a bit special - Koa/Walnut Strat body with a 24 3/4 Walnut Warmoth style neck with Macassar ebony fretboard, all black hardware, no pickguard. I presently presently a matched triple of splittable mini humbuckers on order from Aaron Armstrong. Should be a fun guitar once it is ready! The parts arrived and look superb. Warmoth workmanship really is as good as it gets and one couldn't buy such a thing anywhere.

American Deluxe model Strat or one of their signature models that suits your tastes. Once you get one in your hands and get it setup right you'll never want to let it go LOL. You'll have a keeper.

Wow! And that's why one goes with Warmoth! Sounds really cool. Don't forget to use 500k pots. I look forward to your NGD, Frank.

Thanks Roger! I am looking really forward to it too! I always liked mini humbuckers and I thought that together with a 24.75 scale neck they should sound great in a strat style body for pretty much anything. Now I am just waiting for the pickups from Aaron Armstrong. I plan to go a bit crazy on the electronics - but more out of curiosity than necessity. I plan to put in a S1 switch and have the humbuckers go parallel-serial-single coil using on-on-on switches. I estimated that this gives some 50 or so different sounds (out of which I'm probably going to use 3 or 4 :-)) ... And yes, the pots are 500. I will only have a single master tone ... Never saw the need for individually adjusting the tone knobs.

congrats again on your surf green tele!

    Hi guys!
After asking the questions about choosing the right Fender Strat and getting all the helpful information.. I took what i had learned to the music store and checked out about 8-10 strats. Ranging from 1976 to brand new USA models and sadly, i was not impressed. But what did impress me was the PRS 305 which has 3 single coil pickups on the strat style and that's what i ended up with. So don't shoot me, i just went with what felt and sounded the best to me! Thanks for your help and for all the feedback!

Kudos to you. You listened to yourself. The PRS 305 is a beautiful guitar. A lot more expensive than a lot of decent Strats, but the quality is outstanding. Long may she run! Give us a pic and a report after you get to know her if you feel like it.

My wife gave me a PRS Custom 24 years ago. Whale blue. The playability is astonishing. The neck is so rock hard and precise and yet it plays as smooth as cliche butter.

Yes Kudos for picking what you like. Everyone can tell you what "they" like but you're the one who's going to half to play the darned thing so best to pick what you like. Enjoy!

" Hey, what's the difference between a jazz guitar and a rock guitar? The guy who's playing it."

    I totally agree!

Anyway, I've owned a bunch of Strats (Um, maybe 15) and my fave "strat" of all time is a Gibson / Epiphone S-600 (the white one in the pic) the red S-300 is a dog that I mistakenly believed was the same as the S-600, not even close :-)

My second fave strat is the Fender Showmaster. It's tone is like a church bell.

From what I've been told most of the Mexican made Fender's the bodies and necks are made in Corona where the CNC factory is then shipped to Mexico for finish and assembly. In Mexico they can spray nitro they can't in the California and assembly/setup work is less expensive. I've had a few MIM Fender's including a fairly recent Road Worn 50's strat and they are as good as any American strat just less expensive.
