Ok, so I know everyone thinks it's a terrible idea to keep a hollowbody in anything other than a hardcase, but the case that came with my Gretsch is SUPER heavy and clunky, and I constantly hit the bottom of it on curbs and the ground, and other stuff. From all those bumps and stuff, the bottom latch is pretty much good for nothing. Iv been interested in this Reunion Blues Continental case for a while, but Im not sure wither or not it will hold my guitar (a Gretsch 6120). Have any of you all used one for your hollow bodies?

Nothing wrong with an archtop in a gig bag, as long as you take care of it.
I'm a fan of glenn cronkhite custom cases;he's the founder of RB, and now builds his own bags, He can make whatever you need.
-
I keep my X-500 in a RB gig bag. So far so good.
-
I use a Mono Semi Hollow case, they also make hollow cases.
I find them amazing, not as heavy as the reunion blues and has quite a few options.
Check them out, :: MONO ::
-
Yeah Mike, I also have a Mono for my 335 and my Ovation guitars! It's probably better than the RB for the reasons you mentioned but back then they didn't had one that fit my X-500. But I think they will release a 17' or 18' model soon, at least that's what they told me in an e-mail.
-
Hey there, I got it really recently.

Not my X-500
That case is a 16' and my guitar is a 17'.

I had an RB for my semi-hollow. Great piece of gear. Downsides: a little bulky and they hang pretty high if you use the backstraps.
I have a couple M80's these days and prefer them.
-
Likewise prefer the M80 to the RB Continental for the height on straps. The RB is likely a bit more protective in a hard knock.
In my opinion, the pockets are better designed on the M80; the RB pockets are awkward to use except for the main pocket.
The M80 Dread will hold a 17" Byrdland just fine, but not a fuller depth 17". It will hold a 16" Gretsch with a Bigs.

All my Archtops travel with me in my "Pro Bags" leather gig bag. i had it custom made for my X-500. Great gig bag. All my hardcases are in the Attic!!! (the one's i'm not gigging with hang on the wall so they get played)

I couldn't be more pleased with the RB Continental for my 17" Eastman. Fits perfectly and a lot more sturdy than the gig bags of old. No worries about banging into door jambs and such. Of course, it's bigger too - you can't have the increased protection without the size. As for the straps, yes it rides high with the backpack straps, but for short trips (from the car to the club) I just use a regular bike messenger strap which you can attach to the D-hooks and the case won't be higher than your head.

The Reunion Blues Continental videos of guitars being thrown off roofs are impressive, although I noticed that they find the cheapest possible guitars to fit in the bags before takeoff. I probably wouldn't fit my prized archtop into a bag and chuck it off a tall building, but you never know!
Solo Flight,
How much room do you have left over in terms of length when you fit your 17" Eastman into the Continental (I believe your Eastman to be a bit shorter than my Heritage Eagles with L5 dimensions)? I have been eyeing one of these bags for some time but haven't pulled the trigger since I'd have to order blind and am not sure whether or not it will fit my guitar.
-
Klatu - There's not much room at the top since I know it won't fit with my small clip-on tuner attached. But I can give you a more precise measurement after I get home tonight -of both my Eastman and the inside of the gigbag.
And yes, I wouldn't throw my guitar off a building in it but for your average knocking around, the protection is quite impressive.
-
I've been very satisfied with RB cases. I haven't tried the Mono cases, but they seem just as good. The RB cases are bulky and fairly heavy, but I think the protection overall is better than the hard shell cases. The pockets are designed for charts and stomp boxes, and work well.

So the Eastman is indeed quite snug inside the RB case. The guitar measures 42" including the endpin and there may be only about 5/8 to 3/4 of an inch of room between the top of the headstock and the inside edge of the case. I seem to recall that the Mono bag has a cutout for the endpin but they don't have a 17" model yet.
-
Thanks,
I'll measure my Eagle tonight when I get home.

I managed to squeeze my Ibanez GB-10 into the continental model intended for strats and LPs. It just BARELY fits, but man, is it well protected. I wouldn't check it in baggage, but I have had it hand checked at the gate a couple of times, and it is pretty sturdy. Of course, if you run over anything with a baggage truck, you will be disappointed. I don't know if they make something for 16-17" guitars, other than 335 style (I think) - bought mine 18 months ago, maybe they have more models now.
