I used them for a while, the trouble I had was stringing them through the harp tailpiece on my X_170. The windings were to thick so they wouldn't snug up to the ball end. After a couple days, the pressure wore the windings away and they did snug up. After that they were stable. I used them for fingerstyle only, so I can't comment on pick noise. If I decide to use it for fingerstyle only again, I may put a set back on.

In a conversation with Robert Archigian of the La Bella String Co. he explained the concept of how the strings are supposed to work. The action should be set low, the strings have a lot of tension, and the fingering should take very little effort that close to the fingerboard. Look and listen to John Pizarelli for an example.

Any string will buzz if driven hard enough, the idea is to play within the dynamic range of the strings that allows clean tone . They are not for everyone but they work very well for those folks that learn to play them.

Got my Golden Eagle strung with these 14-67 black tape wounds today. Nice! very mellow. Not as heavy as 67 steel, that's for sure--feels like gut strings, medium gauge -ish. haven't tried with pick, but feels and sounds fantastic with fingers.

I'm tending to agree with this --my action is very low.

Wow, I forgot all about this.

Glad you like them! Are strings 1 and 2 wrapped as well, or just the bottom 4 strings? I never did end up trying them, mainly because on my Eastman I think that low E would not fit in the tailpiece and perhaps not the tuning slot either.

Not only are they plain, but they give a spare pair. (1 and 2 only).

I would like to get back to these Labella black nylon tape on the Regent (only had on the Joe Pass long time ago), but I don't recall the tension specs on those.
    I currently have d'Addario 13-56 and the Labella 800M are 14-67.
I would like to know if I must expect a huge difference in tension?
What are their exact specs if someone knows.
I Know I must expect to drill the 6th string tuner hole and the nut too.

    thank you

I had them on my Emp Regent.. didnt have to drill the hole.

I dont recall a difference in tension vs TIs.. there probably is but it wasnt too noticable to me.

I have them on a Hofner right now and I am experiencing some intonation problems as well. I'm going to try some round-wounds tonight to see if that solves the problem. I too love the tone and feel of these but not enough to keep them on if they are causing intonation problems.

I have been using these strings for 45 years ever since I began playing a 7 string guitar. Wouldn't use anything else

It's a mellow round wound string but it obviously has everything to do with your style of playing. I have always used the heaviest gauge strings .14-.68 and ..81 for my low A string

On my vintage acoustic archtops I use Mapes strings. Round wound
