What's it matter. I've seen some give away prices on nice guitars here that don't move. There appear to be more lurkers than buyers here, which is fine, but I find that strange given the number of "what should I buy" posts.

I'm not buying the economy argument as guitars are being sold elsewhere.

I just saw a mint historic 59 es335 sit on The Gear Page for a couple of weeks at $3200. The guy finally sold it for a little over 3K on EBAY. Could not believe that it took that long to sell it. Instruments move on the Gear Page if priced right.......lots of buyers there.

GP appears more of a rock guitar bunch. I've rarely observed archtops there. Besides, they've gone to charging for sale listings. If I wasn't moving an archtop I wouldn't mind becoming a contributing member there, but it's not an archtop crowd, imho.

Take some time to look around. I found this NOS carved top Heritage Sweet 16 that had been hanging in a store for 3 years and got it for $2200.

Gorgeous '16. I can't recall having ever seen one with a single set pup and a TOM bridge.

I've searched GP for guitars, but archtops are so rarely posted for sale its not worth my time to sift through endless pages of electrics. There's a '16 there now, but it took looking through 15 pages of non desireable's to find it.

On second thought, I took your recommendation and decided to become a supporting member. Hell, if there's no archtops there now, I'll change that one post at a time. I'm so tired of feebay.

    Thanks for your input!

Thanks. I put the Tone Pros bridge on and changed the humbucker to a Fralin P-92. There are a few out there with set single pickups.

Jim Soloway is a member here and I think he has a Sweet 16 for sale.

I knew he had one listed on the HOC forum last year. Does he still have it? I'll send him a PM, thanks again for the tip. And btw, your guitar is setup precisely how'd I'd want one. She truly is X'tra Sweeeeeet!

Bought it very lightly used one month ago for $1200 with a set up by Artisan Guitars in Franklin, TN and LOVE IT!! Play it through my Ultrasound AG30 (bought for my acoustic) until I can get my hands on a Quilter Labs MicroPro 200 10 inch.

They have a couple of these on ebay right now.

    My two cents!

Great guitars, especially at that price. You've got me jonesin' for the one I sold a few months back. Maybe in my next life I'll get to keep everything.

I went through the process on flat tops. When I finally had a custom guitar built 15 yrs ago I knew exactly what I wanted. Even now, it would be the last guitar I would part with. I bought quality guitars in the meantime (Martin, Goodall, Gurian) and still enjoy them. I also like that they still are worth something. Materials, workmanship, value.

(side note: 20/20 hindsight I should have bought several Goodall's. Amazing guitars. Have gone up in value. Boutique maker. Who knew? Don't know what the archtop equivalent in today's market is.)

Played a Goodall once at Dusty Strings in Seattle. When I picked that thing up, it was like grabbing my own cock. Wish I had the $7k scratch it took to buy that guitar. I have a Bourgeois country boy, which I love and would never part with, but I'd have dearly loved to add that guitar to my collection.

Best "guitar first impression" comment ever.

I'm lucky to have a handful of nice guitars, but if times were tight, I would probably let my L5 and Sadowsky go before my GB10. Perfect scale and neck for me and ever so versatile. Swap from a heavy to a medium pick or to your thumb and it's a different guitar. Can be had used for the low $2000's, I think. Still pretty comfortable for a tall guy like me. And they come in my favorite color- blonde!

Congratulations on owning a collection of wonderful guitars.

I've come close several times from buying a GB10, but in the end couldn't get myself to pull the trigger as something else peaked my interest. I've seen several GB10's sell for less than $2k of late. There's a blonde on the 'bay now at no reserve that's not even close to $2k...be interesting to see where it ends up.

2B..... It's calling your name! They are sturdy as hell, stable in all kinds of weather, will fit in the overhead in a blues reunion bag (the new one that is for LPs and strats that they throw off the roof), has the fast attack that you hear in Benson's playing, has incredibly loud and versatile pickups, 24.5" scale, relatively flat radius, easy to do thumb bass moves, can cop a great metheny tone with the right amp setting, gets some of Wes' "bubbly" tweed tone (for sure there is more than one Wes tone) ..... And in general, is just so good at what it does, that it's the last guitar I would ever mess with, and I've done something to nearly every other guitar I own.

I bought mine about 10 years ago for $1700... Found it on gbase and tried something I had read about that appeals to my sensibility and need for fairness. I wrote the guy and told him I couldn't afford it at the price he was asking, but then said that if he ever was having a bad day and needed to make a sale, I would gladly pay him xxxxx. He called me about a month later, not wanting to clean the thing up for a guitar show, and it was mine. I could never let it go, now. Rodney Jones wanted to buy it from me when I took a lesson with him a couple of years ago, but I think more because they are so versatile and consistent, not because mine is special.

I've had fun with mine, hope you get one, someday

A GB-10 sold today for $1657..I watched it go, as usual.

Ibanez 1978 GB-10 NT George Benson Archtop Jazz Guitar | eBay

that "green" the seller is referring to I'd bet money on is the sign of the deteriorating, and gassing, nitro cell pickguard. it's incredible how many people don't recognize the sign of a gassing pickguard.

+1, outstandingly nice guitars! The only thing that makes me mad sometimes is that the pickups are so microphonic. Any cure? Some of the old models seem to have issues with the gassing pickguard but it is easily fixed and apparentlythe problem is solved.

Has anyone experience with the new LGB300?

And is the neck on the Scofield model similar? It has the same funny half brass nut that certainly contributes to the uniqie tone of the GB.
