A short solo played with Preset 64/2 - U.S. Blues Preamp (Fender Tweed Bassman simulation with Exciter and two stereo delays).
The guitar is an Ibanez As 103 (semihollow guitar)

Both the Zoom G5 and the G3 are good units. I just threw this short track together to illustrate some clean sounds for jazz.

    Hi friends,

I've record another demo test played with Epiphone Dot and Zoom G5.
In this song I've played my guitar through G5 FX wich simulated ancient horns with some coltrane and world music reminescences.
Other informations about the G5 presets and gear that I've used to record this track you will find on soundcloud.

Here the link of this demo song:

    Ciao,
here my new demo song composed, arranged and recorded by me with Zoom G5 and Ibanez As 103.

In this demo there are two guitar tracks:

the first guitar track is an arpeggiated guitar played with "Volume Pad" patch (Bank 6 preset 2) ... i've changed the time in the effect "Slow attack".

the second guitar track is the solo and is played with a Fuzz and Marshall 59 Preamp with "Fuzzy back" patch (Bank 10 -Patch 2).

Here the link of the song called "Sophie":

    Hi Rob,

I just wanted to thank you for creating this thread. This may be my first post since joining. I have been thinking of picking up a G5, and you and krueger have convinced me to go for it.

Good luck with the gear acquisition! I think the G3 (or the G5) are great value for money. I mostly play at home with headphones and the G3 is a great practice tool. I often throw down a short vamp with the looper and explore scales and phrasing. I also play in a cover band and I have a few patches that work nicely direct through our PA. It is cool being able to bring your guitar in one hand and the rest of your gear in an small bag in the other.

Some complain there is a lack of clean sounds for jazz in the amp models. I don't think so. There is at least a handful of amp models (Fenders, Matchless etc) that can give warm usable clean sounds. The trick is to dial them in by ear and not expecting the knobs to react the same way as the real amp counterparts. Gain on zero to ten percent is not an uncommon setting for cleans. You might need to compensate with amp levels higher than 100 in these situations to get a healthy line level signal.

Add early reflection and/or air effect after the amp model to get a more amp in the room stereo feeling, especially through headphones.

Thank you again - very helpful. Your first short clip was the one that ultimately convinced me that the Zoom could make sounds I liked.

@rob & Krueger: Would it be possible for you to export some of your patches and upload (attach) the files? Your clips sound great and your patches include some very far from run-of-the-mill stuff. It is inspiring.

The Zoom patches are ordinary text files, and they can be exported and imported using the included librarian software. Personally, I would like to import them for use on my Zoom G3X.

If I have done this correctly, I have exported my favorite Zoom G3 clean patch - it is the only patch I use so far - and I have attached the patch fille to this post. It is a pretty plain vanilla patch - the Blackface Twin Model, the Tangerine cab sim, a drop of High Def Reverb, and lots of EQ. The first thing another user would want to tweak or even drop is probably my first effect - a parametric EQ that I use as a guitar-specific notch filter.

Thanks again for uploading the clips guys, and to Rob for starting the thread.

EDIT: At this time, the forum software will not allow you to upload files with the normal Zoom patch extension .g3xp; you must rename these files - I renamed mine to the extension .txt - and then upload them. After downloading, you will have to rename the files back to an extension that Zoom supports (.g3xp for a patch or .g3xa for a library).

Wow! What kinds of patches are you guys using? I like the tones you're getting with these units.
