Ok, so I recently purchased a used 65 reverb reissue, I loved the sound and tone of the amp in the store...when I brought it home I heard more buzzing, and a hiss that began when I played notes at a louder volume...I pulled out the tubes and examined them...didnt see anything alarming...I should also note the socket im using has two prongs..and Im using an adapter to fit the plug in...any suggestions for my noise problem? I should note as well I'm playing on a MEX tele

Bypassing the ground lug on the power cord with a tube amplifier is a bad idea. That is a likely source of the noise issues, but it is even more of a dumb thing to do from a safety perspective (sorry to be blunt). Please use a properly grounded outlet.

thanks this is my first tube amp so im relatively naive about their needs and quirks haha....much appreciated!

This is so so right. Does your tele have single coils? That'll increase the buzz too, my man.

ya my tele is single coil...and im seriously starting to think its time to upgrade to like a 5th ave godin with double...my guitar has been buzzing on a lot of differnt amps..is there anyway for me to check if it itself is grounded right?

I got a DRRI a couple years ago and when first tried it a lot of noise and etc. Since it would of taken a day or so to get to shop I left it on all day. After a couple hours it started to quiet down and eventually stopped making noises.

+1, all tube amps are noisy, they take 20-30mins to really warm up and settle down

on the tele note, i find the dimarzio noiseless pickups are really good. they sound god and are way quieter. tone freaks might dis-agree but if there is a tone sacrifice (i don't think there is), it's more than worth it for the practicality

Ya i think i will go that route....also did you notice that the preamp tubes are pretty hard to pull out?

I have a DRRI and played it mostly through a Mex Strat when I first got it. It would hum, the normal amount for single coil PUP's. But I would also get a static/crackling sound I could not figure out.....turns out the pick guard on the MIM strats were cheap and unshielded. It was static electricity I was hearing as I played, and touched the pick guard while strumming. Went and bought a Fender replacement pick guard that was shielded, had aluminum foil on the inside back...and problem solved.
-
Thanks a lot! i will be sure to pick one up

Speaking of shielding - I have a Tele that was pretty noisy. I had all of the interior cavities shielded and now it is quiet. Not an expensive job (< $50).

Don't let me insult you on this one because I've done this myself. I had a horrible hum on a Deluxe reverb and a friend of mine said "Turn down the normal channel." It worked. Although I was plugged into the vibe channel, I was getting hum off of the normal channel. I never even considered that. Make sure all the knobs are turned down on the channel that you aren't using.

Fender input jacks have little switches in them that short out when nothing is plugged in. I have had older ones (as well as newer but cheaper ones) stay open and not short out and make for a very noisy amp.

Good to know man thanks

one last question..is it normal for the buzz to increase as i turn the volume up even when i dont have my guitar plugged in? maybe a stupid question but im just wondering
-
I have Twin Reverb re'65 ... It's same . At first time I turn it on . It has noise and hum and buzzing sound . But when after that it's fine not really really quiet but better so much . Don't worry . It's normally of tube amp . ^^
-
Haha great...i was freaking out and paranoid about it...im glad its not defective or anything
-
I had an original Deluxe Reverb..bought new...great sound with my 62 Stratocaster (sold that three years ago)...
My 78 Ibanez 2355 did sound good but I discoverd Polytone in early 80's and switched..
Time on the instrument...pierre
