I had my Sadowsky set up with their flatwound 12's when delivered from Sadowsky. I thought they were very good, but preferred the Thomastik Infeld Jazz Swing 12's I had been using. Both good strings however.

I have Thomastik strings on now but they feel a bit loose to me compared to the Sadowsky flats I have been using. I am looking at La Bellas now since someone said they make the Sadowsky flats. It took me many years of searching until I found the Sadowskys. They are the best string I have ever found to get the tone and long life I have had with them.

My research turned up an exact match of La Bella flatwounds for Sadowsky flatwounds. I sent for a set to try them out on my Sadowsky "Jim Hall" model.

The exact match, at least in gauge, is true for the 012s, not for the 011s:

    Sadowsky: 011/015/022w/030/040/050
    La Bella: 011/015/020w/028/039/052

So I doubt Sadowskys and La Bellas are identical. It would still be interesting how they compare, I'm looking forward to reading about your findings.

I am in the process of redesigning/improving my flat wound strings......in the interim I recommend D'Addario Chromes or Thomastik.

Thanks very much for the update, Roger. I have never found strings that truly compare to the Sadowsky flatwounds I have been using. I hope your new design is as good as the old design.

    Hey,

Reviving a zombie thread here... just wanted to let people know that Sadowsky (I work there) has actually re-engineered their flatwound strings and has them available again.

Who carries the new ones? I’d be curious to try them.
