Ever since someone smashed my Fender Amp Can, thereby rendering it useless and ever since I found out that said Fender Amp Can has been discontinued, I've been wondering if there are comparable "battery powered" amps?
Anyone care to recommend one? I'm looking for something to use to play outside. Thanks.

Never tried an amp can for comparison, but I own a Roland Micro Cube and couldn't be happier with it. Use it a lot. Big smooth tone for such a tiny thing, and decent volume. I've played archtops, acoustic/electrics and Strats on it and it works well with all of them.
Worth a look.

Got the Micro Cube and it sounds quite good at low indoor volume.
I also impulse-bought the Cube Street and it is a much louder and much fuller sounding amp - plenty o' fart-free bass. It is also tilted for projection which also makes it awkward for carry and knob access. But it does put out. The AA batts also seem to last far longer than I would have expected - I'm guessing 10 hours at least on the current alkaline set with no sign of loss.
These days the lithium AA's would be a better value- higher cost per cell, but lower cost per mAh.
I have seen but never tried the Cube RX-5, which may move the bass a little better than the Micro?

Thanks! I'll be on the lookout for a Roland Cube, then. I'll start with the Microcube and test out the others.

Don't mean to be cute but Phil Jones The Briefcase I like: PJB Briefcase .
It is technically a Bass amplifier but I like its expanded range. It also has an internally rechargeable battery or uses a 12V car battery.
P.S. In the mid-90s, I had a pair of Phil Jones-designed, metal-coned Acoustic Energy AE-1 loudspeakers. I drove them with a pair of Krell MDA 300 amplifiers. Some of the best sound I have ever heard even up till today.

Crate rechargeables are all excellent, from the Taxi to Limo to Bass Bus.

I've been pleased with using the Line 6 micro Spider for home practicing.
The C batteries work for quite some time for me.
But I saw a posting somewhere, where a user replaced the C battery holder with D size holder.... Using D size batteries doubled their use time.

There's also VOX. Not the new one. Look for a used DA5 or DA10 (both discontinued).

No love for the good ol' Pignose?
I wouldn't use it for traditional jazz sound because it's basically a fuzz pedal with a speaker built it, but it can actually get a reasonably clean sound for practice.

I prefer a Vox Mini 3 to the Micro Cube and Vox DA5 & DA10. All were about the same cost. I can coax some good sounds out of it with my Squier Tele VM mini humbucker in the neck position. It also does well with my Ibanez AFS75. When using my PRS SE Semi-Hollow I can't get a sound I really like.
If I was willing to spend another $100, the Cube RX would have been my choice.

I'm using this one with modding for good jazz tone.
From zero is difficult, modding is easy.
I changed pre section only one FET.
Backpack Style Amp ( from #294 in "Good Sounds")
I don't have a banjo then I thought to use a rechargeable battery amp and using now on the parede.

Sometime I use the Gibson Nighthawk SP3 with compact multi effector for close to banjo tone.

That thr seems pretty neat. I think my 1st choice is still the cubes, the street cube is pretty amazing. I have seen at least 3 groups using them with guitar and vocals at the same time and getting a good sound.
Even if you don't do vocals it's a big plus to have that even to mic a acoustic or other instrument .

Roland Street -I made a battery pack that holds 6 D cells, I put rechargeables in them and they last forever, have plenty of current and I never buy another battery. I replaced the speaker drivers with Webers. By far the best jazz amp for live on location amplification without AC. The modeling options and effects are good and useful. Check out the other 3 threads on this topic, you'll get information there.

I actually do lots of battery powered gigs at weddings and venues who want jazz around pool ect or in garden and i own 2 of the vox mini 3 's which are great value for money and if daisy chained sound loud but my main amp is a partcaster which consists of me gutting a behringer epa 40 which is 40w but built it into an open back cab and changed the thin sounding 5 inch speaker for a 80w full range efficient 8 inch speaker and i have a battery amp that sounds great with my archtop and loud enough for most small gigs with 40w and a full sound , i even find i use it at gigs where i gates power and use it instead of my tube 15w or 80w solid state amp and just mic it up . It does not sound great with my tele but on the archtop it's a great tone well at least the tone i like :-) and lightweight

Mambo do a battery option too

Forgive my scepticism, but I don't believe we are actually hearing the speaker on that video. Where's the microphone ? He is using the line-out so, it looks as though it is just being used as a pre-amp or a DI box for the recording.
