Sorry, you're right, I read that wrong. Haven't tried those (what I think some call "half-rounds"). I have been curious about them though.

The discussion prompted me to look on the package of flat tops and there is a scale that shows the degree of brightness/mellowness of each type of string. Bronze EXP coated 80/20 is at the far end of the brightness spectrum and silk and steel at the other. Flat tops are right next to silk and steel so I think I will stay with the PBs and just get used to them. They describe flat tops as having a "warm/semi-bright tone". Don't think that's what I'm looking for in this instrument.
Ha Ha, when in doubt, read the manual!
Thanks guys.

Yeah, I wouldn't use flatwounds on anything I intended to be an acoustic guitar.
I'm currently using Elixirs on my Loar LH-600, and I'm pretty happy with the tone and less squeakiness...they sound particularly better after they settle in and get some hours on them and lose a little of their initial "zing."

So wich elixirs are you using?

I love the Martin Silk and Steel on acoustics. I use nothing else on my flat-top acoustic guitars. Really warm and mellow but still powerful.

The D'addario Flat Tops are simply phosphor bronze strings that have been lightly polished to tame the harsh squeakiness. I have them on a dreadnaught, and they sound and play great. I plan to put them on my Eastman 810 at some point.

"This is a fantastic guitar".
He had no issue whatsoever with anything about the guitar and as per above loved it. We decided to go with Martin Phosphor Bronze 12s and to lower the action a bit. The difference in sound between the stock D'Addario (I believe 13's) and the Martin's is minuscule and the changes have made it a bit more user friendly as I'm not a seasoned player.
I'll try to put together a few photos and if I really am feeling confident, a sound clip.
Meanwhile just another thank you to everyone. I have learned so much and found the forum a great source of entertainment as well as knowledge. It's a privilege to be a part of the group.

I had D'Addario LHR 350s on a Heritage I used to own and they were pretty good acoustically. I later sold the guitar so now I have ten sets of them left over.

Would anyone in the UK be willing to send me 4 sets if I Paypal them for strings and postage and their time?
Thanks,

So one of my local music shops recently started stocking a very modest selection of Loars and I played a 350 setup w/ flat wounds through a lil Fender Mustang amp and to I liked it a lot...cut the highs a bit on the amp since there's no tone control on the guitar but to my ears it seemed pretty nice...now i'm new to the jazz world but i know what sort of tones i like and this one was very nice, i'm a bit more partial to the warmer jazz tone and really wish it had a tone control on it but i could see it being a fun one to have in the stable...but i'd just personally like something with more tonal options available to me as i'm still hunting for my first jazz guitar...loved the huge neck on it though, even though i have small hands it still felt really nice...now if only i wasn't too scared to pick one up on ebay...

I know what you mean. I both liked and disliked the single knob setup.
Clean simplicity is always tops in my book, but I still want the ability to roll off some highs on-board.
