Jazz is music, not gear. But I agree that guitarists and audiences have expectations about image. Still ... it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. Flying V or Es-175 or ukulele or kazoo. Gotta swing.

I would say guitarists have expectations not audiences as to visual expectations. Audiences have more expectations about sound, but probably don't know why something doesn't sound like they expected.

The later? My teacher's best friend was the former CEO of Fender Guitars, and told him the TOTAL production time (very beginning to ready to put into packaging, etc) for the sold body Fenders (Teles, Strats, Squires, etc) was about 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Not making a statement about good or bad, just stating some facts about production time.

i play an epihone les paul. the pup's were changed to gibsons 57's, pots and cap's were upgraded. i play thru a cube 80. sound great! well to me anyway. i do have a multitude of hollow and semi hollow bodied guitars (gibsons, epip's fenders etc.) that i play.
