This guitar just popped up in my town, the seller is asking $800, but is likely clueless. I will go see it asap, but if you can help me ID/value it that would be swell. It has a bolt on neck, and the label looks like it has a date (5/60) but no model info. Thanks!

What a sweet (and rare) box! The neck looks really slim (from this angle)...

I have a Framus Model 5/60. I have owned it for over 50 years and recently did a little research. I determined that it is a “Missouri” model. It has a laminated spruce top and mahogany b/s. The neck is a bolt-on and it has a 24.75” scale (very comfortable neck, that accommodates a very low action). The s/n on mine is 8815, which dates it to 1966. Although they have the same model number, my guitar is a little different than the one you are looking at. It is kind of wedge-shaped, with the lower bout being deeper than the upper bout. That allows it to retain a decent amount of acoustic volume while being quite comfortable. It also has a different tailpiece and fingerboard inlays. I would say the one you are looking at is a nicer version. You should be able to find information about vintage Framus guitars here: Framus Vintage
