My Loar LH-280 has two full size humbuckers. Can a floating pickup system, like a DeArmond, be installed instead, the two HB's removed? Or do I have to get a new guitar? The Loar is a poor man's ES-175, if that helps.

If there are two humbuckers installed, there are two large holes in the top. Filling those holes is not a practical thing to do. If you want a fully acoustic guitar with a floating pickup, The Loar has several models.

Finding a used Epiphone Emperor, Guild Savoy or D’Angelico Excel might be easier.

Sell it and get an acoustic archtop.

Since it was cheap, keep the 280. Get a Loar LH650, only designed with a floating pickup.
Here’s mine, complete with a Bartolini 5J pickup.
