Has anyone had a chance to try out yet the newer Positive Grid Reactor for jazz sounds?
I already have the smallest toy fromthe same brand, the GO, and I can say that, as such toy, it offers plenty of fun.
Not that I' m not happy with my setup (I am), but just curious.

They sent me a teaser video that told me basically nothing. How powerful? 12"?
My guess is you could definitely get a good jazz sound...and 10,000 others

Yeah, sure. As you can deduct from my gear, I'm not interested in the 10000 others.;-)
But, as a 69 years old guy fascinated by modern technology, I wonder if the AI thing is going to be the new standard, regardless of brands and genres, for the very near future, and if styles like jazz, a priori quite austere soundwise, will be affected by this trend.

I'm all for it. I have the Positive Grid Neo headphones and the sounds are great. This looks like it can be adjusted like an actual amp, which I really like...
I think modeling is the future. 5 years ago this amount of flexibility wasn't possible...and the most flexible amps cost 3-4 times as much. We're coming a long way very quickly...

Agreed.

This amp is clearly competing against Katana… I have a Katana Mk2 50w, and one of the sounds I have is well-matched to my Eastman archtop. So I’ve no doubt this Reactor would be able to do likewise.
It’s starting to make me remember the 1980s. As new wave keyboardists started receiving better and better synths for less money, you started to see Hammonds and Rhodes sitting on the curb. Garbage. Fast forward to today. If it costs $400 to fix a glorious old tube or SS amp, but for that same $$ you can essentially duplicate its sound and performance characteristics AND get two dozen other excellent amp models and effects, at a certain point who will bother to fix the old amps anymore?
EDIT: If I were running Positive Grid? I would not have the model selector the way they have it. Those would instead be presets 1 thru 5 or whatever, and you could have any sound at any position. If I’m playing a jazz gig and I want a number of different jazz sounds, why should I have to risk accidentally switching to ‘extreme’? This would also help differentiate it from the Katana framework.Last edited by coyote-1; Today at 07:25 AM.
