I watched that last night. It was really interesting and consistent with how he's always talked about archtops as acoustic guitars. I know he's been experimenting with concepts like this for many years. The last time I saw him live was around 2011 and he had by far the best live sound I've ever heard from an archtop so I take his opinion very seriously.

My memory is giving me multiple answers so I don't really trust any of them but it was the Martin and Martin tour with his friend Martin Simpson so it was probably whatever this is in the photo. Simpson's tone was also spectacular. The audience was mostly guitar players and their wives and at intermission all anyone could talk about was how amazing both guitars sounded.

Truly, many jokes to be had in the names on this one ... that being said, it was an absolutely remarkable concert and took a very serious emotional turn. As they both spoke about from the stage, Martin Taylor's son had committed suicide and Taylor had taken it very hard, retreating to his home for a year. Simpson is a very close friend and he apparently forced Taylor to get out of the house and do a tour with him. They are both very accomplished players but VERY different in style and content. They opened the concert with a duet, followed that by solo spots by both Taylor and Simpson and then closed the first half with another duet. They repeated the same basic format in the second set. Between the talent level, the great sound and tone and the emotional context, it was really an amazing evening.
And I do know what Simpson was playing: a custom build by British builder Stefan Sobell.

I like Martin Taylor's playing a lot. But I prefer the classic jazz guitar tone, so for me a 175 with flatwounds through a solid state amp works well. His rig works for him.

I had tickets to see that tour, but Martin Taylor became ill and was in the hospital that evening (possibly food poisoning, if I remember correctly). So I've never gotten to see him live.

it’s nice to hear Jon Dickinson mentioned. He was my local guitar repair guy. Really nice bloke, extremely knowledgable. Wonder if he’s still there?
He’s kind of better known for electronics stuff. He built some amazing looking amps - Muse used them. The pickup sound killer.

Bonehead comments on that YouTube video haha. I hate guitarists.

Great modern brighter tone, such a great chord melody player.
Martin Taylor seems to have had lots of different guitars and setups. But, haven't we all.
Here he is playing with Trefor Owen.
