Is there already a thread about pedalbodars? I've only found threads that deal with “mini pedal boards”for jazz.

For me a pedalboard (and effects in general) is the ecception, not the rule. I might just use it for some specific compositions of mine (including jazz compositions) but mostly as a pleasant diversion from my jazz routine which is ,basically, guitar and amp, period.

I've got two of them: one is a “mini pedalboard for jazz” (just chromatic tuner, volume pedal, freeze and looper), used mainly for practice + study purposes. The other one has chromatic tuner, volume pedal, distorsion, chorus, reverb, an FS-5U footswitch connected to the reverb pedal, delay and loop pedal.

This thread is for anyone who wants to share anything (whether technical or musical) about their pedalboards.

First off: I'm sharing a video where I'm playing with my larger pedalboard.

Every now and then I don't mind taking a break from jazz, indulging in a "pedalboard bath" ...it's relaxing and a bit like painting (in a more or less abstract fashion) with sound.
What was I thinking here? "Noel Gallagher" (Epiphone Casino + a light blue shirt, though it's not a Manchester City shirt, it's a Lazio shirt!
) ..."Noel Gallagher meets David Torn"??

I don't use a board for jazz guitar but the trumpet player wants to borrow my wah wah.

While I play a few jazz tunes I don’t consider myself a jazz guitar player…more like Americana Jam Band.

I have two pedalboards one for acoustic gigs and one for electric.. Both are Pedaltrain Nano boards powered by Cioks DC5 power supplies.

Both boards have a Earthquakes Devices Dispatch Master (delay/reverb) Great pedal!

The acoustic board also has a Red Eye Pre-Amp to help with piezo pick-ups; a mini Ibanez Tremolo pedal and a mini Nobles OD…..the Red Eye Pre-Amp has a great clean boost for leads etc. 95% of the time it’s just guitar into the pre-amp with a little dispatch master reverb delay…subtle.

Electric board has an EP booster, Mr. Black Deluxe (spring reverb and tremolo), Boss Blues Driver and a Snow White Auto Wah.

I have had Freeze pedals before and am always tempted to buy another. I had a third board just for practice looping noodling ambient but got rid of it all except for the looper (EH720) which I still use extensively for practice.

If you haven’t already check out Bill Frisell’s Silent Comedy album..it is just Bill messing with pedals.

I too play a few jazz tunes but am not a jazz player per se, more in the jam/fusion world. All I have is an ancient Zoom multi effects unit. It has a billion patches of which I use zero. I run it on manual and only use the chorus and delay for the most part. I used the octave effect and wah wah once last year I think playing Shakedown Street lol. Oddly, I use the effects more with my mandolin than with my guitar.

This is my non - jazz pedal board. Minimal knobs and uncomplicated - that's as much as I can cope with. It's pretty wonderful. The multifx is from 1996. The Nobels (used as a clean boost) has disintegrated jack sockets and has been changed for an MXR Micro Amp. It puts loud drummers in their place!

The oceans 11 has a load of options. Can you change the reverb types on the hoof? For what applications do you use the Infinite? Thanks

Yes it does have a ton of options and I think you can change, reverb types "on the hoof" (is that "on the fly"?), by turning the knob but don't take my word for it, I haven't tried yet (I will).

I use the infinite for drones, as a "freeze" effect, by pressing on the Boss footswitch; I can get a variety of different drones, the oceans11 has a wide palette of "colors" for that...

As soon as the board was ready, I've spent a whole day figuring out what each pedal could do and made a written note of what I came up with... I'm sure there's a lot more to discover, especially with the reverb and delay pedals...

As much as I appreciate guitarists who are great at using effects. I find myself liking a clean unaffected tone more and more lately at 69 years old,Lol!
I find especially excessive reverb and delays especially annoying. Since they seem to cover the original voice.
I much prefer a rawer naked type voice, even in Blues and Rock players.

I have to agree with this. The best effects are subtle. I find most reverbs and delays tend to wash out the pick attack. I been using a modulation set for doubling. A very light doubling that just makes the note sound "bigger" without washing out my pick attack or drenching it in an effect. You wouldn't even know I'm using it unless I shut it off.

For jazz I just use a TC Electronics Spark Booster (clean boost), so I don't have to fiddle with the volume knob on the guitar when it's time to solo.

For rock/pop I use a Carl Martin Quattro - Analog Delay, Chorus, Dual Overdrives, and Compression, but if it's just a jam I'll only use an Ibanez Tube Screamer as a lead boost.

I also have an Electro-Harmonix Pico Attack Decay Tape Reverse Simulator Pedal that I occasionally use for recording but rarely live.

    That's it.

Thanks. Yes, on the hoof - at a gig say.
I noticed the F/S is unlatching so you hold it down for the desired duration? The CTL on my ME8 functions as both latched or unlatched depends on how it's assigned.

I'm primarily a bass player, and as a working bassist at least 80% of my gigs don't require a pedalboard of any sort. Actually, one cover band I'm in now requires a single stompbox for synth-bass sounds, so I've been reluctantly bringing that one pedal to gigs, but I kinda hate myself for doing so...my attitude is, I want to be either a pure bassist with no pedals, or a crazy bassist with a ton of pedals!

So here's my bass pedalboard for when I'm doing the crazy gigs:

    Pedalboards-big-pedalboard-jpg

Recently did a gig 1,500 miles away, so I had to scale down the bass pedalboard to make it portable/airplane-friendly. This is what I wound up with:

When I do use a pedalboard for guitar, it's either the Line6 Floorboard that connects to their POD Pro, or it's this mini rig that I cobbled together recently for an R&B/soul band:

Hey Stormy where are you located? I double on mandolin too and have been playing Dead tunes for ever.

Amp modeler and speaker IR. Dedicated tuner pedal with mute and a decent looper. So.. a small pedalboard. Battery powered because it's convenient. Maybe also add a volume pedal.

Around 10 to 12 years back I did a modern church gig with a younger guitarist. He showed up dressed like a member of say Coldplay or similar, and had the latest pedal board loaded with Strymon effects.
His pedal board alone must of cost several thousand $$$ He had the correct worship favorite Gretsch guitar with Fitertrons and definitely looked the L.A. cast part.

So when he played, he almost never went above the 3 to 5th fret, nor played without tons of delay ala the Edge.
It was eye opening to me how much technology had replaced the actual playing and ability needed to play a gig!

And with advent further from A.I. and Rap’s popularity. I would never venture into music. It’s become less actual music and mostly visual.
At least Jimi Hendrix,Jaco Pastorius,Jeff Beck, who were panned by the older Jazz guitarists actually raised the musical bar as well as the visual one,Lol!
