News: “Guitar Center has made the surprise announcement that it is setting up its own in-house guitar brand, and it’s asked players for their input.

The retailer’s CEO, Gabe Dalporto, revealed the news in a social media post last month, during which he laid down the company’s ambitious plans to start up a guitar brand that would push the instrument into unexplored territory.

“We are about to do something insane,” Dalporto says in a TikTok video. “We are going to build a revolutionary guitar and guitar brand from the ground up. Guitars haven’t changed that much in the last 50 years, and we’re about to change that.

“We have something that nobody else has: a relationship with you,” he continues.

“Our customers are incredible musicians. And we’re going to work with you in public, out loud, and share our designs, take your feedback, iterate, and make the best guitar that has ever been made.”

    BIG TAKEAWAY from announcement—
“Guitars haven’t changed much in 50 years and we’re about to change that”

Unfortunately it's not a good one.

I am curious though not optimistic to see what they come up with.

Some recent interesting guitar innovations are from Ken Parker (RIP) and George Gruhn. Neither are super-cheap or entry-level guitars.

Otherwise, I admit I can't see how they're going to innovate much, especially with the tariff uncertainty currently plaguing overseas manufacture.

    "Inovation". Its just marketspeak.

Its probably a bunch of solid body guitars and they act like there is a shortage.

Barley Henton would be a good brand name.

Man, I haven’t been to a Guitar Center in 15 years. Last time there a dude was shredding while French kissing his R2D2-sized girlfriend. Fellini movie stuff…

I hadn't been to a big box GC or Sam Ash in 15 years either. I went last October and wound up leaving behind several thousand dollars thus remembering why I hadn't made a habit out of visiting GC, lol.
