They do have a distinct "sound" but not one that appeals to me at all.
My favourite thing is Roger Waters wrote songs like 'Time' when he was 27. That's a proper grumpy young man there. I respect that.

You could accuse Waters of many things but toxic positivity is not one of them.

It is not the guitar that determines value, it is who played it.

Collectors like this kind of thing. If something belonged to so-and-so they'll pay vast amounts just to own it. Its actual value is irrelevant. Also, it's an investment. Some other person will pay even more for it as time goes by.

It seems to me that there are always going to be a lot of people with a lot of money, even if the majority of people do not. So there will always be conspicuous consumption. There may not be enough wealth or desire in the middle of the income distribution to
support a market for $3-4k guitars, but there will always be enough for one’s priced at multiples of that (or at least that’s my guess)

Seems like the "classic rock" holding younger people's attention is 90's era grunge and punk. Never thought that'd be even considered classic rock but I also thought there would always be oldies stations and now there are almost none. I guess time will tell.
We only know the people we know, which likely is a small and biased sample in both our cases. But I do know a range of kids in their late teens and early 20s who are into 60-70s popular music through their own discovery. And I also know that much of this music has sustained 50+ years of interest/sales well after it was new and with people who were not born when it was. So I think some of this music has a level of quality and broad appeal that is likely to endure to at least some degree and not die almost entirely.

That is an understatement. Gilmore and Waters are done and kudos to Gilmore for that.

He is a man who has played some of the most melodic and memorable solos in the history of rock guitar. I'm not really a Pink Floyd fan but I've stopped and been really awed by some of Gilmour's solos whenever I've encountered them.

I have a Firebird (a.k.a. Jerrybird) modded to the Tiger scheme. I am willing to let it go for a mere, let’s say, $3,000,000.
