Had this exact thing happen to me 20 years ago with a beautiful Larrivee C-19 that didn't have paper wadded up in front of the headstock. I went to tune it to pitch and saw the neck broken at the headstock. It took 3 months to get my 3 grand back. That guitar had a really cool eagle inlay on the headstock too.
